Of course George Lee didn’t show up but the band really didn’t need him to ‘sell’ them so we weren’t disappointed after all. ‘Little Maxio Bailey’, the former director of Gene Coy’s Orchestra, is now waving his baton and dancing in his own in imitable little way in front of Tommy’s band. He did very nicely in spite of the fact that he has been with the band only a week. The line-up of the band is as follows: reeds, Tommy Douglas, Franz Bruce and James Keith; brass, James Ross, Sidney Miller, Edward Johnson and Richmond Henderson; rythm, Ben Curtis, Edward Phillips, Robert Wilson and Effergee Ware. Tho Synco Hi-Hatters of the J. B. Sept. 23, 1935 To The Omaha Guide: Having been ill for more than ten years, and having tried numerous doctors, I was finally advised to come to this little health resort. I arrived here on September 11, and was di rected to one of the leading doctors here, and through his careful advice of the waters and treatments, I can truthfully say on today, I am like a new man. I would like for others who are suf fering to know of this wonderful place. I can’t say too much for Ex celsior Springs. I am leaving here on tomorrow for parts in Texas and Oklahoma and hope to return soon to Omaha, a well man! L. N. Jamies, 2202 Burdette St. Tennesseeans Plan To Use Ballot Against Judge Knoxville, Tenn., Sept. 12—(By O. Taylor for ANP)—Since protests in letter form have failed to stop Judge Robert P. Williams from using tho words “nigger” and “darky” in referring to Negroes who come be fore hirp for trial, local Negro citi zens are planning to put a stop to the practice by defeating the jurist at the forthcoming election, accord ing to a report circulated here. Judge Williams, who is known for his fairness in dealing with Negroes, according to the report has frequent ly used the opprobrious terms in his courtroom and the San Juan Civic Club, composed of some of the most influential citizens of color, has written him several letters asking that he cease to use the words “nig ger” and “darky”. The judge has ig nored these letters and has continued to use the terms. Other candidates for the bench have been questioned as to their attitude on the question and each has declared himself as op posed to such terms and a movement will be launched to defeat Judge Wil liams, unless he stops using the words to which the Negro citizens have objected. The San Juan Civic Club is head ed by G. W< McDade, president, with Dr. H. W. Green, chairman of the executive committee and C. A. Cow un, secretary. The N. A. A. C. P. is going to give away a General Electric refrige rator at a large gift carnival, Octo ber 14. Watch for further details. -- — For Quick Results in getting the things you want. He has turned down fabulous sums offered to him by cigarette and liquor manufacturers , simply because he uses neither product.
