“Toting Water On Both Shoulders”
Ancient pictures show women as
carrying pitchers of water on their
shoulders. For instance, Rebecca at
the well and the “Woman of Sa
maria”. But in these pictures the wo
had a pitcher on just one shoulder- j
The inference is that it would be dif
ficult to carry a pitcher on each
shoulder without spilling’ some of the
water or without the danger of hav
ing one or both pitchers to drop,
losing both water and pitcher. The
modern interpretaton is that one
should not be deceitful lest he be ex
posed and his reputation suffer and
his usefulness become impaired.
Deception may succeed for a while
but it never can give substantial re
sults. Honor, honesty, frankness
and truthfulness are more to be de
sired and are infinitely more profi
table.

Problem and Needs Tact—Be care

Maxie Miller:—I am a mother and
terribly worried. My daughter, 17, i
is just wild about a boy. And he
means her no good. She knows that
he got another girl in trouble and
mine says she loves him and just ,
refused to marry her, but this girl of
can’t give him up. What can I do?
I don’t want my child ruined-—Wor
ried Mother.
Worried Mother:—You are one of
many thousands of your kind. It is
a difficult problem, for your girl is
about as crazy as the average girl
of her age. You will have to deal
tactfully With her. Best thing is to
send her off to school and give her
a chance to forget. Get her away as
soon as you can - and trust “Old
Father Time.” At school she will
meet others and forget this one. But
be careful, or you will “spill the
beans”. —Maxie Miller.
