Fort, pastor 22nd and Seward Streets The Mother’s Day spirit was commemorated throughout all the services Sunday at Salem. Sunday school was opened at P :30 with the superintendent in charge. The lesson was inspiringly taught by the teachers of each class. A talk on ihe Mothers day Lesson was given by the assistant-super intendent, Mr. John Rosenbaugh. At 11 o’clock a wonderful sermon: “A Righteous Life,” found in Luke. 1 :6 was delivered to us by the pastor. Rev. Fort’s sermons are always clear. Concise and *o the point; thus enjoved by all. B. Y. P. U. was opened at 5:30 by the president. Mr. W. M. Fooner. Later the services were charge of the vice-president. Mr. Lorenzo Rosenbaugh. A Moth-r’s Day program was ren dered and enjoyed by all. As a surprise, the chairman of the program committee. Mrs. P.pvth‘. Patterson, presented each Mother present with a r<\ e. At 8 p. m. Rev. Harris delivered a sou’ stirring message, the sub ject of which was “ Following •T‘‘*us." found in St. John, 1:37. The message was enjoyed by all. The Mysterious Harmonv Four quartette, of Salem, rendered a s h cticn just before closing. Several visiting friends were present throughout the day. THE WILLING WORKERS SPONSOR MOTHER’S DAY PROGRAM The Willing Workers’ club, of the Metropolitan Spirtiual church, sponsored a Mo her’s day pro gram at the church on May 12th. It was very beautifully carried out. The program consisted of' two numbers by the choir, paper by Mrs. Willa Varner; solo, by Mrs. Earl M. Roberts; Bib'ical Alphabetic by Mrs. R. W. John son dedica ed to her husband. Rev. R. W. Johnson; prayer song, by Katherine Reed. The guest speaker was Mrs. J. D. Lewis. Response by Mr. Fred Forrest. Mrs. Gertrude Mayberry, presi dent. Mrs. Willa Varner, reporter. ST. BENEDICT S PARISH NEWS The parish of St. Benedict’s deeply mourned the death of Rev. Father Daly, the former pastor of this church on las. Thursday. His kind and loving patience; his sympathetic and charitable dispositon; his deep-centered in terest in the Negro race and his constantly extended helping hand, made him an outstanding and lovable character among the protestants as well as catholics. The funeral service at St. John’s church was well attended by the parishoners of St. Bene dict s. who. in spite of the rain, "ame to pay their last tribuie of: respect to their beloved pastor. The seventh day Mass was said at St. Benedicts church Thursday morning at 8:15 for the repose of the soul of Father Daly. A Holy Name Society Rally, was held last Wednesday even ing in the church and club room. Father James Preuss. the new nas or of St. Benedict’s was the '■•’’est of honer, and gave a splen did lecture to the men. Refresh ments were served following the meeting. A '‘Welcome’’ Tea is being planned by the members of the Altar Society, in honor of the new pastor. The date of the Tea will be announced later. A beautiful five foot statue of , ^ . Joseph, was blessed and in-' sta'led in the church of St. Benedict’s las: Sunday after Mass. The statute was a gift from a secret donor who choose o be most kind to our pastor, in ‘bn noble work that he has under taken. Sunday was another day long to be remembered by all who at tended. The Sunday school op en ’d at 9:30 by Superintendent L. Lewis and s.aff of teachers at their post. As such, the Sunday school is gaining all the time by Barents who are becoming more ‘oncerned in the Bible school. At 11 a. m. and 8 p. m. Preaching by the pastor at which rime much tributes were paid to Mothers by the pastor and the numbers ren dered by the choir. At 6 p. m. the B. Y. P. U. opened with the usual enthusiasm, Brother P. Taylor president. The True and Tried Group, rendered a Moth er's day program at this period to a splendid audience, which was enjoyed by all. The Mt. Moriah church has just closed an evangelist campaign at which time 48 persons were add ed to the church. Of this number 40 were candidates for Baptism. The Rev. C. H. Bratton, D. D. pastor of First Baptist Church Leavenworth, Kans., conducted the meeting. Thus this meeting becomes history in the life time of the church. Sunday being Mother’s day. at 3 p. m. The pas;or. Rev. Jones administered the ordinance of Baptism to those who gave their lives to Christ, some who were not able to be Baptised will be at a later date. The rieht hand of fellowship was extended and the Lord’s supper was given. Too much praise cannot be given to the Sunday school superintendent and her staff of teachers. All of the can didates were Sunday school pupils and two-thirds of this number were out the primary and begin ners department of 'which Mrs. ' . O. Jones is supervisor. The Sunday school adopted a motto, the first of the year: *'A Bigger and Better Sunday school and All For Christ.” We are sure that the great crowd who witnesses and worship ped at this hour left with joy in .heir souls. The pastor was real ly a. his best and happy in the service of the King as he adminis tered the ordinance of Baptism and the Lord's supper. The Ever Loyal group and the Women’s Bib’e Class are having a carnation tea Thursday 16th at the home of Mrs. C. Auston, 2604 N. 27th Street from 4 p. m. to 8 p. m. Old Reliable Croup serves a dinner at the dinner at the church. Sunday May 19th at 1 p. m. Baked chicken, etc. All are urged to have their din ner at the church. A cordial welcome to all. MORNING STAR Rev. F. B. Banks, pastor. The Sunday School opened at 9 a. m. wi h the superintendent. Mrs. A. J. Johnson in charge. At 11 a. m. the pastor, Rev. F. B. Banks delivered a wonderful Mother’s Day sermon. He read from scripture 113, Psalm, “He Maketh the Barren Woman to Keep House and to be a Joyful Mother of Children.” His subject was: “Behold thy Mother,” John 27:9. The choir furnished music for the occasion. At 3 p. m. the Willing Work ers' Baby Contest terminated. Rev. Calhoun, of C'eaves Temple, and his choir were with us. Rev. Calhoun delivered a splendid sermon on prayer. A splendid short program was rendered. Baby Donald Anderson, the grandson of Mrs. Grace Kirtlev. was aw-; arded the first prize. Mrs. Geral dine Smith, captain; Baby Mary Ann. the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George White, second prize. The contest was very successful. The spring bannnet, sponsored by the Heart to Heart club was a grand success. The Willing Workers’ Club met at the home of Mrs. G. Kiri ley on Thursday night. A splendid meeting was held. Mother Hayden was the guest of Mrs. Mary Williams Sunday morning for breakfast. She was also the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Lee McGee for dinner at 6 p. m. The B. Y. P. U. was opened wi h the vice-president, Mrs. G. W. Stromile presiding. Viola Wilson is honored as Bible cham pion. At 8 p. m. a very strong sermon was preached. The subject was “Put on the Who'e Armour of God.” Ephesians. 611. Mr. Pat Gibson is still on the sick list. His condition is re por ed very serious. Mrs. G. W. Stromile. report er. ST. JOHN'S A. M. E. CHURCH “The Friendly Church.-’ Rev. J. P. Bryant, pastor. The service at St. John’s last Sunday was very’.impressive. As; it was Mother’s Day, all thoughts were giving praise to Mother. The attendance at Sunday school was not up to normal, due to the rain. Those present, how ever, were very interested in the lesson for the day. Rev. Bryant preached a very strong sermon on Mother. He I gave some very timely and ap preciated thoughts on the Rela tions of Mother to the Home. Na tion and Country. After this yery touching serm on, I am sure all present will be more appreciative of the things Mother does for them. As one looked over the church, he could see bothe red and white flowers as tributes to Mother. As Friday, May 24th. is the day of the annual banquet, honoring Rishop and Mrs. J. A. Gregg, the Sons and Daughters of Allen will be quite busy making ready for the night when all the citizens of Omaha will receive a great treat, j the privilege of hearing Bishop Gregg speak. He will preach a sermon to Sons and Daughters of Allen on Sun day morning. May 26th at 10:45 a. m. At this sendee .it is asked that every friend and member, who can. will give one dollar to pay on the parsonage. The sick of the church are, Mrs. Ward, one of the very faith ful members of St. John’s and ‘Mrs. WiJllie Green, who is much better than she has been. His feet, as pillows of Fire3 sig nify the sturdiness and stability of His purpose to establish right eousness on the Earth. The open book represents the Gospel, and His dominion is over land and sea. The third verse seems to show Christ as Administrator and ex ample of Preaching the Gospel. Tt was decided that the declara tion ‘time shall be no more,’ does not refer to the final end or Eternity. The eighth to tenth verses seem to make man instru mental in promulgating the Gos pel. The gifts of the spirit create in man a zeal, which is delightful to exercise, but carries with it very heavy burdens, and at times is a very unpleasant task. Elder W. I. Thomas filled the pulpit at Pilgrim Sunday, j preaching at a special Mother’s Day sermon to a very large audi ence. The Sunday School Alliance met at the church in the afternoon. A splendid program was rendered, .which was well received. There was the usual large and enthus iastic crowd on hand. The evening hour was given over to a special Mother’s Day program, in charge of Mrs. Dixon, j This program was presented by I the young people of the church j Mrs. Richard won the honor of; having the largest number of j generation present, four. Mrs. I Herman Smi.h had the largest number of daughters, four. Moth er Goodlett won the honor of be ing the oldest mother present. She is nearing eighty years. Visitors are always welcome at Pilgrim. Miss Johnnie Gordon repre sented the daughters, Betty Jean Thomas, represented the grand mothers and Betty Ford repre sented the great grand mothers. Musical numbers and readings were given.
