SALEM BAPTIST CHURCH i 22nd and Seward Streets. Rev. W. E. Fort, pasJor. Sunday was a high day all day at Salem. The Sunday school was •pened at 9:30 a. m., with the superintendent, Mrs. L. Harris, presiding. The lesson was very interesting, and was enjoyed by all. Our own little Ivory Moore was elected to represent Salem in the popularity contest which is to ter minate in June. Another member was added to our Sunday school roll. The 11 o’clock message was brought to us by our own member and pas. or, Rev, W. E. Port. His WJ subject was “Prove Faithful,” found in Revelations, 2:10. This was outlined so plainly that it was easily understood by all. He quoted, “No ma.ter what comes or goes, be Faithful.” Several visitors were present. B. Y. P. Uj. opened at 5:30 with the president, Mr. William Coop er presiding. The lesson was in spiringly taught, and a wonder ful program was rendered by Group No. 1. Mrs. Pettis was ! group Captain. At 4 p. m. the pastor, Rev. Fort, and Salem’s Quartette, “The Mysterious Four,” rendered serv ices at Beulah Baptist Church, Council Bluffs, la., of which Rev. Rhoades is pastor. The subject of the gospel message brought to us by Rev. Fort, was “Crucified with Christ.” The audience was thrilled by our pastor’s message, and the singing of our quartette. Those in the quartette are Messrs R. Turner, Coleman, C. Singleton and F. L. Wesley. The evening service was open ed a.. 8 p. m. Another inspiring message was brought to us by our pastor. His subject was “Peace,” found in Isaiah, 52:7. A compari son was made by the saying that as oil and water will not mix, al though poured into the same ves sel, neither will the Grace of God and worldy things mix in the same soul. Special visitors for the day were Elder J. Miller, Rev. Bed sole and Attorney A. C. Cole. Visitors are always welcome. ST. JOHN’S A. M. E. CHURCH “The Friendly Church.” Rev. L. P. Bryant, pastor. BENEDICT’S PARISH NEWS The laity of St. Benedict’s extends a hearty welcome to Fa-! ther James Preuss, S. J. who has! recently been appointed pastor of! the parish. Father Preuss preached his first sermon as pastor to a large congregation last Sunday. To many, the appointment was a sur prise, but a very pleasant one in-j deed as Father Pruess is not an entire stranger to us, having said mass many times last summer, during the illness of Father Daly. The new pastor attended the meeting of the Holy Name Socie ! ty, and was introduced to the ! group. He visited the children I at breakfast and made a splendid impression upon them by his sin cere inierest in their welfare. He expressed his pleasure at the size of the congregation, and the ac tivities of the different groups. He was particularly pleased with the singing of the children at j mass. He plans to be present at the different meetings of each auxiliary of the church, and we feci that with his cooperation and guidance ,a splendid future is in store for St. Benedicts’ materially and spiritually. Father James C. Daly, S. J., the resigning pastor, leaves many true and very devoted friends, who will always remember him for his loving kindness and con sideration. Owing to his contin ued illness, and inability to activ ly care for his flock, he felt it was the kindest thing for them to have an active and efficient past or, and he feels that we could not be entrusted to a more kindly and efficient person than the Rev. Father Preuss. Jt is the earnest prayer of his many friends that, being relieved of the mental strain of supervis ing the parish, he may regain his health, and often visit the church and people that he has loved, and they that have loved him deeply in return. Much regret is also expressed at the parking with Father A. J. Wilwerding, who has endeared himself to the entire parish dur ing the months that he acted as pastor for St. Benedict’s. He is directly responsible for the start ing of a convert movement that will add many souls to the church, and it is the ardent wish of his many friends that he will eon continue to have the interest of St. Benedict’s at heart. We wish to express our deep appreciation of the interest taken in our annual Spring Rummage Sale. Many boxes and packages have been received, filled with splendid saleable goods. We will open with ihis, Friday morning, but more will be needed to keep the sale going every week-end of the month. Call WE-5223 and we will call for your donation. i Where is Thy God?
