Daly, pastor of St. Benedict's church, was among those who enjyed the annual play and entertainment given by the children of St. Benedict’s school which was produced hist Monday night under the splendid direction of Sister Mary Edith, Sis er Jean Marie and Miss irKirkpatric. The largest crowd that has been seen at St. Benedict’s for a num ber of years, filled the church auditorium to overflowing. Tt is hard to say which of the teachers sponsored the most in teresting part of the programme; te little tots were simply adorable in their cunning performance, with their customary blunderers that are far more charming than perfetttioh. The dance around te Christmas tree by the of the in' termediate grades was a splendid and beautiful contribution, hut 1 think a shade of preference went to the bovs in their “Pucker Up I and Whistle” song and them tnp-j ningp numbers. Edward Brown,; a neohew of the notable Sam frown, and a former attendant of St. Benedicts school, was applaud-! ed hv all for this professional a* bility of tap dancing, as were the two vonnger boys from Sister: Mary Edith’s department kept the; audience laughing and applauding! for fifteen minutes. The snlendid address by Father Wilwerding, ronndtd out a very! complete and satisfactory pro-1 gramme that, led up to the grandl entrance of Santa Claus in per-! son at 9:30. This very loyal per son arrived in spite of a very] hazadrous trip through a dense fog,—something like the one that we waded through in Omaha last Monday morning—He start-1 ed out ith every good intention of arriving in time to see the childrens’ programme, but this being his first trip of the season ' hings just sort of went wrong, here and there, and then that ter rible fog—He had to make a forced landing which delayed him for several hours. Fortunately he had thought to send his pack If *** ^ r ^ m m - on ahead by a good helper. So the toys and well filled begs of goodies and boxes of erackerjack w’ere already at the tree when he arrived. True to his great and kindly heart, he would not intrust the distribution of these to anyone but himself and how those little faces lighted up with smiles of joy at this special treat (>f a hand shake, a gentle pat or a pinch of the cheek from Santa himself. There was 140 of the e.hildren present. A great deal said about te evening’s entertain ment, but for fear of infringing Hpon the generosity of this space we will now say that we are grateful to those who came, those ho helped to fill these little hearts wit happiness, and to dear kind Santa for his very considerate visit and we wis you alia Merry Christmas and a Happy and pros perous New Year.
