Mr and Mrs. M. C. Arbuckle were the guest of Mrs Madeline Sterling at a picnic in Elmwood Park on September 4. There was plenty of everything to eat and every one en joyed themselves immensely. Mrs Sterling and her aunt were cohost to the picnic. Mr. M C Arbuckle presented his wife Alma wih a beautiful nine tube R C A Radiola as her Second An niversary present. Mrs Arbuckle appreciates her present very much and finds plenty company in it. She is interested in music vocally and instrumentally. Mrs Pete Lindley and Mrs Houston Johnson entertained with a farewell dinner Tuesday night in honor of Miss Dorothy Patterson of Los Angeles Guests were Charles Dickerson. Buster Phillips, Gerald Phillips, John "Williams, Margaret Dickerson. Julian Mcpherson, Vera Chandler, and Herbert McCaw. Miss Patterson is leaving Saturday for Chicago, from there to Detroit, Michigan. These stops will be brief sine# Miss Patterson has to return to school by September 30th. The CCC Quartette, better known in Omaha as the Melody Boys, are still singing and making good. They sing in the camp services on Sun. days and Wednesdays in the even, ings, in the various white churches, also to tourist in Warroad, Minnesota. Three of the original quartette are: Booker Gordon, Percy Hall and Elmer Craig, who are in camp, and John Broils, of Council Grove, Kan. sas is taking the part that Roy Gor. don formerly took. The boys are very happy and enjoy the camp, most especially fighting forest fires. Bridge was the event of the evening. We were very glad to have Mr and Mrs Dorsey and Mrs McRaven and Mr Mills with us again after their visit to Chicago, Mrs Bailey, one of our members, has been on the sick list, but we are glad to report she is up and around again. Mrs Select, man and Mr Stamps were awarded prizes for the evening. Mr McGee was a visitor The Eureka Bridge Club met at 2914 North 2Sth Avenue with Mr P I Adkins as host. The meeting was opened with a ukele selection from Mr Penn A very lengthy business was transacted due to the fact that ! it was time for election of officers. They are as follows: President, Mr, J Davis; vice.president, Mr. W Penn; secretary, Mr J Phillips; ■ and Mr S phillips, treasurer. Bridge was played . Prizes were: | first Mrs J Phillips for a change, booby Mrs W Penn and Mr Brook shire. Visitors were: Mrs M Conn, Mrs D Green, M A Hilton. MYSTERY CLUB The “Mystery Club” began its meeting September 9 at 11 o'clock with the reading of the minutes by the secretary, Mrs Patterson, plans were made for a Style Show to be given at a later date. Mrs. Thomas, Miss Brown and Mr Delapine were appointed on the entertainment com. mittee. Mrs Willie Washington and Mr Jimmy Murphy’s applications were unanimously accepted. Mr. Thomp.: son gave a very intellectual talk on “Friendship ” Remarks were also given by Mr Earl Clark. To Miss Gwendolyn Jones of Top. eka. Kansas and Mr Curtis with Mr. Buford of St Louis we welcome you to our city and club meetings. Gathering for the last time to pay homage to the late Alma White, an Omaha girl who was killed in an I -.■ — —.». ... —: automobile crash at Weeping Water, September as she was returning from Lincoln, Nebraska. Funeral ser_ vices were held from the Hillside Presbyterian Church last Friday af_ ternoon Rev. Williams officiated Arrangements were in charge of the Myers Funeral Home, Interment at Prospect Hill. Our club regrets very much the loss of this dear member who was always willing and ready to do her bit for the welfare of her club. We, with the bereaved family wish to thank our many frinds fer the interest and sympathy duriag the last rites of the deceased. The Sojourner Truth Study Club met at the home of Mrs J H Mer_ ritt, 2931 Franklin Street last Mon. day evening. Mrs Lulu Thornton on the life of Mrs Sojourner Truth, gave a very interesting book review who rs one of the most outstanding women of the race. A vote of thanks was given to Mrs Thornton and she was asked to read the review at some other time in the near future. The Sojourner Truth Study Club met Monday, September 11 at the residence of Mrs Dallas, 119 North 37th Plans were made for an enter, tainment September 28th. Mrs Frazier was voted as a member of the club. Mrs. Reese of Kansas City, Mis. souri was a visitor. She is the house guest of Mrs Jessie Leland, 2824 North 26th Street Mrs Reese gave some very timely remarks and reeeiv ed a vote of thanks for same from club.
