U63 NeDrasho. Independent DECEMBER 14, 1901 PAGE 15 Farmers Ship Their Own Grain r For many years the farmers have been at the mercy of an elevator trust, as has been clearly shown in court proceedings in recent months. How ever, Nebraska farmers are not" now compelled to wait the slowprocesa of the courts in order to get fair ' prices for grain. The Farmers Grain Co. has been organized under Ne braska laws with an authorized capi tal of $250,000 and has secured a membership on the Omaha Grain Ex change it is the only farmers' com pany in Nebraska that has gained this advantage. The manager, Mr. C Vin- - cent, has succeeded in overcoming all the obstacles that formerly prevented farme'rs from selling their own grain in the "world's market," and the fol lowing letter plainly shows he is doing a successful business and saving thou sands of dollars for Nebraska farm ers. Why should not you save on your crop as well as other people? Six Cents a Bushel Norton, Kan., Aug. 20, 1905. Oscar Hunt, one of ' the Carlisle football team, is an Indian millionaire from Oklahoma. As John R. Hegeman, president of the Metropolitan Lite Insurance com pany, sat in the witness chair of the Armstrong legislative investigating committee, says the New York Com mercial, he seemed a cross between Henry Ward Beecher and Robert Gollyer, with a slight dash of St. Simeon Stylites thrown in to add to the "effect" of sanctification. His em phatic expression of abhorrence for the "perpendicular pronoun" maae a deep impression upon William barnes, Sr., of Albany, who looked on with a quizzical glint in his near eye. When Mr. Hegeman had declared that he did not draw all of his salary of $100,000 Mr. Barnes leaned forward and whispered to a man in front of him, "That is the face of a saint." "Yes," retorted Mr. Hughes, softly for he had overheard the remark. "But no saint was ever as holy as Mr. Hegeman looks."
