For particu lars address THE INDEPENDENT. i IMPORTANT NEWS OF THE WEEK At the Peking railway station, as a train carrying one of the four mis sions ordered abroad to study foreign political methods was leaving, a bomb was exploded inside a private car, killing four minor officials and wound ing over twenty other persons. The wounded include Prince Tsal Tohe, who heads the most important of the missions, and Wu Ting Fang, former minister to the United States, both of whom received slight injuries. The perpetrator of the outrage, who was n the car, was blown to pices. The affair has created a profound sensa tion and causes apprehension regard ing the safety of members of the court and leading officials of the govern ment. The government officials and railways are strongly guarded. George Poell, the brave fireman who save the life of Baby Ussuary at Powell, Neb., some time ago and lost a leg in doing so, was nominated for clerk of Hall county at Grand Island, Neb., Saturday by the democrats and populists. A dispatch from there says: It was a pathetic incident. Sev eral eloquent addresses were made as to the heroic act of the man and when Mr. Poell was called for he merely bowed and said: "Gentlemen, I have not much to say, it kind of hurts," and his voice broke with emotion. Official dispatches received from Cienfuegos announced the killing' of Congressman Enrique Villuendas, leader of the liberal party and the most able orator in the lower house and the chief of police of Cienfuegos during a conflict between the two po litical parties, the liberals and moder ates. As the police ascended the stairs they were met by a party of liberals, who fired on them, killing Chief of Police Illance. The police returned the fire, killing Vil luendas and wounding several others, The liberals admit they were bad-1 ly beaten in the elections held to ?lect ! members of election boards to serve at the general election to be held in Cuba on December 2, but claim they were outvoted because the moderates crowded the polling places and would not admit their workers, being aided in this, they claim by the police.
