OLD GUARD POPULISTS CLUBS Active Efforts to Organize Them Will Be Made in Texas Abilene, Texas To the Editor of The Independent: Will you kindly say to Texas populists, readers of you paper, that, on or about June 5, State Chairman Eager of the populist party state executive committee of this state will issue his first call on them - to , assemble, In their respective school districts and organize them selves into the Old Guard Populist clubs. He will name the precise date for ' the simultaneous organization of each club. He Has not yet definitely determined as to," the best time for this club work for the reason that are farmers and they are still very closely confined on; their farms and are.'. asking: that"' they shall not be called on to lose even one day from their crops just at this time. In the meantime I am still reach ..m ing bu for the names and addresses of populists in school districts with which I have not as yet been able to correspond. I have gotten in touch with some of our friends in each of 112 counties of the state, embrac ing quite two-thirds of the population, of the state and from each county I have pledge or pledges to : organize club of clubs. The work in-which I am engaged s -not "lagging," but. on the contrary is being persistently, if quietly pushed, and Chairman- Eager and I are very hopeful, in fact confi dent, that in response to the call soon to be made for blub organization work several hundred clubs will be secured. With one to two or more such clubs organized and at work In each of said 112 counties, it Is practically cer tain that a jreat many more will be secured , in response to the second call to be made later by Chairman Eager. Indeed, with 500 clubs active ly engaged in -the work It is practi cally certain that, in good time, every neighborhood In ' every county in Texas will have its Old Guard Club as a rallying point for those who sin cerely believe in the principles rep resented by the Peoples Party. 1 lmp:rld Hernia Gere Rupture radically cured by new proctss, in a few weeks, without inconvenience or loss of time in bed. Omais, Neb In this connection let me add that populists in many other states aro taking a deep interest in the re-organi zation work going on in this state, and I have letters from leading men of our party pledging co-operation for themselves and their people In Ala bama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mis souri, Nebraska, New .York, Ohio and Pennsylvania. This , means that if Texas populists shall show them selves willing and ready to get back in; line for populism, our comrades in every other state in the United States will "take heart" and will also get in line for the campaigns of 1906 and 1908. . Permit me also to say that I par ticularly wish to have sent to me at once, the names and postofflce ad dresses of one to three or more earn est,, reliable populists in and for each school . district in this state that I may send to them full particulars as to the work already done and to be done in the interest of the special reforms advocated by the Peoples' Party. If you, In your editorial col umns, will ask our friends in Texas to forward to me promptly the special information herein called for, I will thank you very much. H. L. BENTLEY, President Texas Federation of Populist Clubs. ... HAIL INSURANCE This year we expect to , raise fine crops, and from the prospects now, our expectations will ' be realized. There is, however, one element in this good state of ours that is sure to surprise almost all of us and at a time when we have the crop within our grasp. That element is hail. ; Many a farmer has gone.to bed at night with his beautiful, golden crop waving in the breeze all ready for the harvest, which he expected to begin next morning, but along comes one of those tearing, driving hail storms that is so common to this state and cleans up the whole field and the crop Is har vested, but not with any profit to the owner. He has lost all his seed, time and hard labor. 7 You can guard against all this by insuring against hail in the United Mutual Hail Insurance Association of Lincoln, Nebr., the most reliable com pany doing this class of business in the state. It has paid to 3,115 policy holders the enormous . sum of $214, 994.70 for losses. It has paid a single loss on one policy of $1,577. t The rates are fair, and equitable and all the losses will be settled honestly and promptly. The association has agents in nearly all cities and towns in Ne braska, who will be glad to take your applications. They write only $1,800 of insurance on a section, therefore it will be to you interest to insure early, before your neighbor takes the full amount. It costs the same early or late. We are proud of their record and believe they have done more for the farmers of the state of Nebraska than any other insurance company, and they are entitled to your patron age. ;.
