THE NEBRASKA INDEPENDENT.
JUNE 16, 1904.
chairman of the meeting, and John
S. Allan of Norman, as secretary.
Oklahoma has five votes in the
Springfield convention, and on motion
the convention decided to elect ten
Oklahoma delegates, each with half a
vote, and instructed them to place
their proxy In case they are unable
to attend.
Spencer E. Sanders was elected na
tional committeeman unanimously.
Delegate Renfrew of Woods county
'was also mentioned for the place. On
a motion of Secretary Allan the nam
ing of the members of the territorial
central committee was deferred until
the congressional convention at Okla
homa City July 26.
A motion was made to instruct the
delegates to the . Springfield conven
tion to vote for none but a populist for
the presidential nominee, -but in the
discussion relative to the naming of
territorial committeeman this motion
was lost sight of and never came to a
vote. It expressed almost the unani
mous sentiment of the convention,
however, and would certainly have
passed had it come to a vote. Sev
eral of the delegates ia speaking of
this said that unless the populist par
ty took an independent stand, na
tionally, it' would only be a question
of a few years until it would bcome
extinct by absorption in the other par
ties. Firm confidence was expressed,
however, in populistic piinciples.
