H, P. LAU CO., WHOLESALE GROC
ERS. This is the representative wholesale
house of Lincoln. They occupy one of
the best buildings in the city, carry all
the wholesale grocery catalogue in
cludes, and are widely known as manu
facturers of the celebrated Lau Brand
Products. They manufacture unadul
terated spices, mustards, baking pow
der and extracts, and are known as the
finest coffee roasters in the west. The
growth of this business in the face of
strong competition has been the most
rapid of any of its kind in this coun
try. This company is known through
out this and adjoining states for the
superior goods they handle. The H.
P. Lau Co. not only advertises Lincoln
as a manufacturing and commercial
center, but it brings many thousands
of dollars to the city every week. This
is a home institution and wage
earners should demand the products
sold by this company. So too, should
every Lincoln citizen. The object of
this movement is to explain the rea
sons why we should patronize home
industry. It is carefully estimated that
the non-resident merchant a portion,
nually over seven million dollars, and
much of this tremendous total leaves
Lincoln. Catalogue houses claim part,
the nno-resident merchant a portion,
and the peddler part of the balance
Little of this division aids labor, sus
tains home institutions or assists Lin
coln. The proposition that confronts
both labor and the merchant is a legi
timate preference for Lincoln people.
What we want to do is to impress on
the minds of every citizen of Lincoln
that every time you buy a package of
Lau Twentieth Century CofTee you
help to build up Lincoln. This coffee
Is roasted and packed in this city and
is Bold by all the leading grocers. Why
pay more than twenty cents for a
pound of coffee when you can buy Lau
Coffee at this price and get a product
that is fresh roasted' and guaranteed
to give satisfaction? This company
employes seventy-five men. They have
been in business since 1870. The H. P.
Jjau company is always foremost in
any movement for a greater Lincoln
agethan any one firm we know of.
This company also owns the Lincoln
Coffee and 'Spice Mills, which is an
other one of our large industries. The
H. P. Lau company ranks among our
biggest laxpayers, and we should fos
ter and encourage such institutions.
Consider this proposition seriously,
and demand the H. P. Lau products.
SEARLE & CHAPIN LUMBER CO.
The most important factor in the
lumber business of Lincoln is the well
known firm of Searle & Chapin, lo
cated at 737 N street. This business

foundation. They are prepared to
furnish anything in their line in any
quantity, and in the most prompt and
satisfactory manner. This enterprise
is conducted upon liberal methods and
forms a valuable feature of the trade
resources of the city. This firm is one
of the best known in this section as
dealers In . lumber, lime, hard wall
plaster, brick and sand. Wage earners
will make no mistake in giving their
support to this favorably known insti
tution and in so doing favor a home
business that is doing its share to
ward making Lincoln prosperous as a
business community.

TILTON-PHELPS FURNITURE CO.,
WHOLESALE' FURNITURE.
The attention that has been devoted
to the production of fine furniture in
this country reveals the fact that
American inventive genius and me
chanical ability are quite as successful
in this line as they are in many others.
As proof of this we make direct ref
erence to the Tilton-Phelps Furniture
company, who are successors to the
furniture department of the Wisconsin
Furniture and Coffin company. This
company is turning out a grade of
furniture that is being well received.
This institution is strictly a home en
terprise, employing a good many men,
and is an enterprise in good favor
with all Lincoln people. The propri
etors of this company are men known
for their positive attitude in all mat
ters of good business policy. They
are thoroughly practical men in the
furniture line, and to become con
vinced that Lincoln is producing as
fine furniture as can be turned out in
the world it is only necessary to take
a walk through this plant. Here may

DON CAMERON, 119 SO. TWELFTH
STREET.
Mr. Cameron realizes -the way to
reach a' man's heart is through his
stomach, and the big substantial
meals he sets up to them at moderate
prices has forced them to look him
up. 'Mr. Cameron is doing a very
l-.irge business. His short order service
is the best to be had in Lincoln. Mr.
Cameron is a friend of the laboring
people, and they have demonstrated
their appreciation by liberal patron
age. He serves meals at all hours and
his prices are reasonable. Remember
the location, 119 South Twelfth street.
THE KEYSTONE GROCERY.

everything to be Ijad in a first-class
store of this kind. Mr. Parker also
does automobile repairing and. lock
and key work. To make a long story
short, he does all kinds of repair work
along these lines. Mr. Parker has a
warm spot in his heart for the union
man, having been one of them himself
for many years. Union men should
foster and encourage such friendly
firms, and when you need anything in
this line remember our friend's loca

CASTLE, ROPER & MATTHEWS.
If there is one business more than
another that requires for its success
ful prosecution a large amount of fine
taste, delicacy of thought and expres
sion toward its patrons, and a tender
respect and regard for their feelings,
it is that of the funeral director. We
refer with pleasure in this respect to
Castle, Roper & Matthews, located at
120 to 124 South Thirteenth street, who
have a wide prestige among the fami
lies of the wage earners of this city.
These gentlemen stand unexcelled in
this particular profession. They take
charge of funerals from the time of
death until the interment, and never
fail to give perfect satisfaction. They
have the good will and the patronage
of wage earners and other good peo
ple of Lincoln. This firm has on many
occasions manifested -a most friendly
interest in the cause of labor. We take
this occasion of placing the name of
this firm before the friends of orga
nized labor.
