A most interesting branch of work being done by the state is that at the Hospital for the Crippled, Ruptured and Deformed. Crippled children from the county poor farms or from homes where the parents or guardians are unable to provide for their proper medical care are admitted to this in stitution and given surgical treatment and medical care until their condition is so much improved that they may be returned as practically healthy children. Dr. John P. Lord of Omaha and Dr. H. Winnett Orr of Lincoln are in charge of the hospital as super intendent and assistant, respectively. The institution is under the supervi sion of the State Board of Lands and Buildings and at the present time is caring for about twenty children of all ages who are being relieved of va rious crippled conditions. . NEBRASKA PAINT & LEAD CO. One of the Larger Manufacturing Con cerns of the West. One of the manufacturing concerns of which Lincoln is justly proud is the Nebraska Paint & Lead Co., with fac tory and offices at 305 O street, and of which C. H. Bauer is the proprietor. This concern manufactures a fine line of paints and white ( lead, and there is no doubt that its paints are among the most lasting and service able on the market. It is such concerns as the above which have made the business growth of Lincoln a possibility. LINCOLN MEDICAL COLLEGE. An Institution Which Is a Source of Great Pride. An institution which has a high standing and which is a credit to our city and state is the Lincoln Medical College. This institution, managed as it is by some of the best members of our medical profession, has taken its. place among the leading and recog nized Eclectic Medical Colleges In the country, and is a member of the Con federation ' of Eclectic Medical Col leges of the United States. The Lincoln Medical - College will soon be in a new home, having pur chased a fine new building, which is well adapted for its purpose, and is now fitting it up with all modern equip ment and appointments. . Its growth has been rapid and sub stantial and today it is the largest and most successful medical college in this western country. The graduates of this college are accorded recognition all over the world. The faculty is composed of physicians, and surgeons of high standing, all of whom are lead ers in their several specialties. The work of this instittuion is for good and it has done much to spread the good name of Lincoln as an edu cational center. A. R. TALBOT, HEAD CONSUL OF MODERN WOODMEN OF AMERICA. Mr. Talbot was born in Alexis, Illi nois, April 11, 1859. He received his preliminary education in the public schools, graduating from the high school at Alexis in 1881. He complet ed his college course in Heddirig Col lege, at Abbingdon, Ills. Ten years later this college conferred the degree of LL. D. upon him. He entered the Union Law School, of Chicago, gradu ating in 1883, and immediately after wards located at Lincoln, Neb., and commenced the practice of law. In 1887 he formed a partnership with Hon. W. J. Bryan under the firm name of Talbot & Bryan, which continued until 1896. He was elected to the state senate in 1896 and re-elected in 189S; was president pro tem of the state senate during the session of 1899, and by virtue of his office, acting governor for several weeks during the absence of the governor and lieuten ant governor. In 1890, at the Head Camp of the Modern Woodmen of America, lie was elected a director, and was re-elected at each succeeding Head Camp, serv ing for some time as chairman of the board. At the Head Camp in Indianap olis in June, 1903, he was elected by unanimous vote to the position of Head Consul of that society and was re-elected at Milwaukee in June, 1905, for a term of three years. This places him at the head of the largest frater nal beneficiary order in the United States, with a membership of over 750,000, and insurance in force of over $1,200,000,000.
