on a farm near the present town of
Stockton, Jo Daviess county, Illinois.
He attended the public schools of his
native county until he was 17 years
old, when he began teaching school
during the winter months and con
tinued for three years, during the fall
and spring terms attending the Illinois
State University at Normal. He, paid
his expenses at this institution by
teaching during the winter months and
working as a farm hand during the
summer season. During his college
lite he was a member of the Fhiladel
phian society. -
In 1881 he was elected; principal of
the school at Nora, Illinois, a position
Le held for two years. He then began
the study of law at Galena, Illinois
In Smith county, Kansas, and Eastern
Nebraska. He also negotiates loans

lender.
Mr. Sieck is a broad minded and
public spirited citizen and one who is
interested and influential in the busi
