Mr A; is a hcnvy merchant in
Now 1 orlr, and his residence for some
time past been in Williamsburg, in tho
aristocratic portion of tho city known as
South Side. His wife is a beautiful and
Rixoiuplushed woman, heloiijriiiir to a
wealthy and highly respectablo family in
New York, and was looked upon by her
husband as evwy thing thut could bo do
tired in a partner for Jifo.
Tho third person, Air. U , a young
man doing business iu New York, is also
of high standing. ,
Some three months - since tho wife and
Mr. 11 formed an acquaintance in a Broad
way saloon. Tho two frequently met at
the samo place, and finally became ar
tlently attached, and feehng that they
would bo unhappy if separated, tho lady
decided to abandon her husband nnd chil
dren and elope with her lover. ' Early on
the morning of tho 4th was fixed upon to
consummate their designs and carry their
plans into execution.
The husband had received soms intima

and though he could not credit tho rumor,
decided to be fully convinced of its truth or
falsity. ...
n the morning in- question, Mr.. A.
left the house, and meeting a carriage, she
immediately sprung into it, when the dri
ver proceeded toward the South Tenth
treot ferry.
,Tho husband was now convinced of the
intentions of his wife, awl overtaking' the
carriage, wrenched open the door, and im
mediately commenced an onslaught upon
the young man with a bovvie knife, and
did not desist until he had inflicted a dan

the arm, and one which will pruWr th

and the family physician was called in to

At this stage of the all'air the two con
tleinen recognized each other as intimate
business friends in New York.
As the lady remained incog., Mr. A
doclured tlmt he was not aware tf th r.
lations existing between Mr. 11. and the
lady, or he would not for the world have
taken this step. ,
Mr. A. was very sorrv for his rashness
rind regretted that he had not allowed his
wife to leave without molestation.

and two other skillful surcreons were sent
for. The consultation took place that eve

chance for hi recovery.
The wife was discarded and proceeded
nt once to her friends in New York. Du
ring the day the father and brother of the
lady visited A., and after having heard hit
version "of the affair, did not blame him
for the course he had taken. .
The wife consigned the custody of the
three children to her liieband, after which
he generously gav her the eldest boy.

The following correspondence will show
that the act of the last legislature of the
Territory, designating the County Commis
sioners as tne proper persons to enter lown
Sites, is not recognised by the Commissioner
of the Land Ollice.
It is a question of doubt whether the Judges
of Irolate, or the United States Judges, can
bo regarded ns "Judges of tlie County Court."
As soon as that doubt is removed, notice wi.l
be given. In the mean time no entering of
towns not incorporated can be made.
A copv of the act of the lust Legishitme
will be placet! in the hands of the Commis
