last Saturday, by the citizens of liellevue
and vicinity, in a manner highly credita
ble to the managers.
The people assembled according to or

JJenton House, at 10 o'clock, A. M., and
-after a short preliminary exercise, they
-adjourned to meet at 3 o'clock, P. M.. at
iBtmton House, at which time there was
enved up by the gentleinenly landlords,
Messrs. CorrMAV & SrTODoaao, one of
the moot splendid suppers ever given in
che Territory. ,
:Prir to partaking of the supper, Ex
Lieut. Gov. McCumas, of Pacific City,
formerly Virginia, delivered a thrilling
aud ipatriutic speech, which was loudly
applauded by the eager audience. Speech
es were al delivered by Messrs. Ik'ach
Decatur, aud others. A patriotic song

the steamers Watosa, Ben Bolt, Min-ne-ha-ha,

passenger. We are under many obliga
tions to the Boats Min-ne-ha-ha, Emma
and Admiral, for late St. Louis papers.
The officers on these boats, are all gen
tlemanly and obliging, and deserve the
patronage of the public.

day morning, at 10 1-2, A. M., by Mr.
Hamilton and in the evening at 6 1-2, by

braska News in which reference is made
to me as a candidate for Delegate to Con
gress, is an entire misrepresentation so far
as I am concerned. I do not stand on any
such platform. I have never laid down
any such platform; and it is not true that
I rely upon the ultra men of any party
for my support; but on the contrary, I
number among my friends and supporters,
men of all parties in all parts of the Ter
ritory. I am an Independent candidate
for Delegate and am opposed to the intro
duction of any political issues in this cam
paign. My platform is the "The best interests
of the whole Territory of Nebraska."

tice to these gentlemen, whom I have
known as honorable, straight forward,

wish to make this statement : When the
Gazette started last fall, in this place, I
ordered Mr. Thompson, then foreman in
the office, to give their business card a
single insertion, and from our own neg
lect, it has remained in the paper ever
since, without their knowledge and con
sent. I am sorry you did not know these

Territorial Convention at
Nebraska City,
At a meeting held by the citizens of
Otoe county, David Litidly was called to
the chair and J. H. Maxon, chosen Sec
retary. The following Preamble aud
Resolutions were theu unanimously adopt
ed :
Whereas it is proposed to hold a Terri
torial convention at Bellevue, on the 14th
inst., composed of delegates from the dif
ferent sections of the territory, favorable
to the removal of the Capitol, aud opposed
to the corrupt factions which have hereto
fore ruled this territ ry ; to nominate
a candidate for Congress and whereas
it is desirable that Otoe county be repre
sented in said couventien. Therefore, be
it resolved,
1 st. Tha the basis of representation be
the same as in both branches of the ter
ritori il legislation.
2d. Thnt the meeting appoint eight del
egates, who, together with the chairman,
shall represent Otoe county in said con
vention. 3d. That said delegates be uninttructed
as to the nominee, except he bo capable,
honest and true to the interests of those
he would re resent.
4th. That we pledge ourselves to use
all honoraLle means to secure the success
of our nominee.
5th. That should any of the delegates
appointed at the present meeting, fail to
attend, they are authorized to appoint sub
filiates, aud should said county be not ful
ly represented in said convention, that
