Chuuk", April 1:1 -Continuous selling
of wheat futures today, largely in tin
u. i\ nf profit taking ami credited fur the
limst part to the cast, found the market
unusually vulnerable an<l sent prices off
sharply. The < lose was lieav> am! at the
bottom. Reports from the I’nited l-IIng
• lom that a general mill strike was pend
ing. already partial un the west coast,
was a Pig fnctor In the decline.
Wheat finished 2* to &*,c lower; corn
"i.s 2* to ■!*<• off. oats were * to *c

W heat had advanced 25c the last week
ami with Liverpool closed today and for
eign demand slick as a consequence, the
majority were Inclined to look for a set
I'fii It, although tint an extensive a. one as
took place. There was good buying of
wheat through strong commission houses
at time*, but It did not last.
I h» seaboard failed to confirm any
export business Exporters were credited
with holding offers back. However, light
loads of rye or 65,000 bUshtUs were r»
potted put through.
There was fairly persistent selling of
May corn today, led by several promi
nent commission houses. The spread wid
ened to around 4 lie compared with the
Inly at one time. Outside interest was
less Jn evidence, and the market wanted
for support. Prices sold off sharply and
closed near the bottom.
Oats manifested steadiness much of the
du\ and sagged finally with other grains.
Commission houses were moderate buyers
on ail dips. The news was favorable.
Rye sold off with wheat. Trade was
moderate. The Increase of 188.Otto bushels
itl the visible supply for the week proved
a disappointment anil kept buyers away
from the pit.
I'i . \ i.siotis eased under- pressure of
comm; --ion house liquidation. Lard was
2to. off ami fibs were unchanged to 7 Vic
up.
I*it Notes.
The dnmesti visible supplv of wheat
for th- week decreased 2.190.000 bushels.
Tile reduction was about as expected, and
1*'ought ih<* total down to 55.241,1)00
bushels compared with 56.R7t5.000 bushels
a p ai ago. Tue demand for cash wheat
In most markets, however, was not active
and prices cased with the futures. A re
port that a cargo of Duluth No. 1 north
ern wheat was purchased to come here
tor delivery on May contract helped along
the reaction In the pit.
t’ron reports were Inclined to be more
favorable. Further scattered rains have
in-cn received. However a local expert
v. as out with r statement placing the
piokalde winter yields at 450.000,000
bushels compared with 5fto.noo.000 bushels
h year ago but it had little effect. Gen
erally th* trade refuses to become worked
tip over tip* more or less poor prospects
that prevail.
The Winnipeg wheat market was rela
tively firm compared with Chicago early,
the May delivery there moving to a nr
premium over Chicago, but the late trade
witnessed a quick slump, with the differ
ence narrowing to 2*c to 2*0 st the
last. Cash wheat in Winnipeg seems to
he . firmly held, with the No. 1 northern
selling at 2c ever the May.
Clearances <>f domestic wheat recently
have tivcn of fair size. Shipments today
totaled 922.0<»0 bushels. An eastern au
tlmriri commented on the fact that of
the *.789.000 bushels wheat that cleared
from North America last week 87:1.000
bushels went to Russia, over 1.000.000 to
Italv over 1.600.000 bushels In England,
while the rest went to Belgium. Holland,
France, Germany, Scandinavia Roland
Turkey. Greece. Egypt, the Orient »nd
nth*:** There seems to be a much
healthier export trade Jn this country
and Canada than the dally reported sales
might lead one to believe.
