Two hundred mem hers of the Oma
h 1 Athletic club fit h mass meeting
Friday night pledged themselves to
obtain 119.000 In subscriptions for pre
ferred stock In the club and therefore
«ive the Athletic clyb from closing
its doors.
The pledge was given after I’resi
dent Hoy Wilcox hud announced that
the totals were $130,150. This total
was reached Friday afternoon when
>80,000 was pledged by the Brundels
store, the First National hunk and
the United Stales National bank.
The Brundels store subscribed $10
000 and the banks each subscribed
$5,500. These subscriptions represent
30 per cent of the' un*>c( ured notes
held by each of these institutions
against the club. The Braudels note
is $.'!>.OUO and tlie bank notes are
$11,000 each. These three companies
had agreed when the campaign opened
to accept 50 per cent of their notes
if cash was paid.
They gave a great impetus to the
campaign "hen they agreed Friday
afternoon to take preferred Stock
instead of the cash. President Roy
Wilcox of the club said.
The big subscriptions were made
Friday at a meeting of T. L. Davis,
representing the First National bank
Owyer Yates, representing the United
States National bank; H. B. Zlmman.
representing the Brandeis interests;
President Wilcox and Henry Monsky,
who have taken a leading part In the
campaign.
The members present at the mass
meeting Friday night cheered when
the announcement of the subscrip
tions was made.
The following men volunteered to
act as captains in the renewed cam
paign: L. D. Tpham, Harold Sabot
ker, W. R. Wood, William Schmoller,
diaries Srhwuger, Thomas Quinlan.
Henry Rosenthal. Karl Douis, Frank
Boyd, Isidor Ziegler, Charles Garvey,
Frank Latenser, John Gentlemen, Jess
Haugh, William Guild. Tom Kelley,
Jack Allgaier, Harry Black, F. W
Currey and Karl Ijingdon.
Approximately $1,500 was raised In
additional and new subscriptions by
those present at the meeting Friday
night. Each man present at the meet
ing was furnished with lists showing
the life and resident members who
have not subscribed.
President Wilcox announced Friday
right that ihe campaign will be con
tinued until ilie $175,000 and 400 mem
hers are obtained.
Election Petitions in
Circulation at Wymore
Wymore, March 20.—Petitions are
being circulated among Wymore
voters to file the names of William
K. Wright. Wymore dry-cleaner;
Frank W. Norris and Wilson Kin
cade, railway engineers, and W. A.
Stahl. Wymore banker, as candidates
for city councllmeti in ,he coming
election. All except Kincade are
members of the present council, and
Norris is a former mayor of the
city.
Petitions arc also being circulated
in favor of D. K. Windle, Wymore
banker; F. K. Crawford, postmaster,
and Will L. Jones, business man, for
members of the board of education for
three-year terms, to be voted 011 at
the spring election. •
An issue at this election will be an
ordinance for additional paving. An
other issue will be right of persuns
to vend ice cream about the streets
of the residence section.

Buys Yard at Niobrara. Neb.
Gregory, S. P.. March 20.—W. T.
Spelts, for many years manager of
the F. i'. Krotter Lumber company of
tills city, has tendered bis reslgna
tion, effective April 15, and with his
family -will move to Niobrara, Neb.,
where lie has purchased the J. P.
Forsythe I, umber company yards.
Mr. Spelts has been president of the
Gregory Commercial club the last
three years and Is also president of
the board of education.
Pioneer Dead at 82.
Beatrice, March 20.—Simon Twedell,
pioneer of Johnson county, died at his
home nt Crab Orchard after an Illness
of more Hum two years. Me was 82
years old. Ills wife died a year ago.
He leaves no family except a number
of grandchildren. Burial was In the
Vesta cemetery.

The new subdivision. "Bonita,"
promoted by the MoCague organiza
tion, reports the sale of several lots
there the last week. There are
seven new homes in course of con
struction and at the present time 25
families are living on the tract. Fa
vorable action has been taken bv city
officials on the extension of gas to
this subdivision. A strong effort is
being made for the paving of Seven
ty second street.
Indications nre that construction of
15 more homes soon will be started.

for A. J. Wixon was given at the

by Eider Sapp of Nemaha. Burial
was in Stella cemetery.
Sirs. Wixon died at her home on n
farm a few miles from Denver aftet
10 days' illness with pneumonia. The
