Hritish Leader tn Discuss
Problem Th rsday;Geneva
Plan to Be Analyzed.
By Associated Treaa.
Genevta, March ft.—Austen Cham
j tid Iain's projected statement outlln
, Ing the British objections to the
Gpneva peace protocol, has been pur
off until Thursday, This was partly
due to courtesy to the late Hjalmar
! Brant Ing’S successor on the council,
who will not arrive here before Thurs
day morning, but waa chiefly to give
an opportunity to the leaders to get
together and map out their program
for the particular council session at
which the protocol will he discussed.
The feeling Is distinctly growing
that, while the proposed new five or
seven-power guarantee pact, where
by the powers would reciprocally
promise to settle all controversies hy
arbitration and agree In no circum
stances to resort to war, is very much
in the air, the Geneva protocol Is an
accomplished fact and must not light
Iv he disregarded.
That this protocol may have had
features and should be remodeled, is
^ admitted, but there seems to be a con
viction, which Geneva's neutral at
mosphere helps to augment, that the
Geneva protocal must he clung to
tenaciously until something better bas
been actually elaborated.
The British foreign secretary and
M. Briand, representing Frsnce, had
a long conversation thU afternoon on
the whole problem of security and the
particular question of the protocol In
its relation to security. Tonight the
statesmen, both chiefs and subordi
nates, w’ere the guests at a dinner of
SH covers given by M. Comnene, Ru
manian minister to Switzerland. At
! the coffee hour there was considerable
informal discussion of the general
Kuropean situation and how best to
treat It.
