There w'-ts enough support rendered »*n the clipg to make the wheat swings un usually erratic. Volume of trade was the inrgeat In some time The seaboard confirmed export sales of around 200.000 bushels worked over the holiday. Small lots of gulf wheat for March and April shipments were reported canceled Liverpool closed Id higher. Lorn displayed a strong tone ntoat of the day but reacted with wheat at the last. Absorption by bullish Interests was active, but there was free selling by longs on the hard spot*. Farm reserve* of corn are placed at 77S.OOO.OOO to 820.000,000 bushels as of March 1. this comparing with 1.153.000,000 bushels a year ago. uats averaged higher most of the ses sion. but finally eased with other grains. The visible supply decreased 1,594.000 bushels. Reports thsl foreigners were canceling and an Increase of 18.000 bushels In the visible supply led to free selling of rye by longs after the early bulge, and the close whs weak Provisions closed firm. Lard was 7%r to 10c higher and ribs were 22%o to 2t%c higher. Pit Notes. Fluctuations in the wheat pit were rapid. The tickets and the blackboards worn behind In quotations at Intervals it*.ring the fore part of the session. Out side buying was broad (luring the first few hours, but It failed to follow' the advances. Much of the selling of wheat Liter in the session was credited to local and outside professionals In the way of taking profits. Winnipeg showed h. rela tively steady undertone compared with t * ll i« ago at the last. ' Private experts issued their reports on farm reaerve* and they came as expect ed Stocks of wheat on the farms were placed at from 112.600.000 to 1 17,000.000 bushels, with total stocks In the visible, country mills and elevators and on the farms estimated at 263.000.000 to 276. <100,000 bushels. Deductions made by H W. Snow, crop expert, were aenaa - tlonslly bullish as to the amount of wheat left for export and carry over. He figured that consumption at home from March 1 to June 30 would total 194.000. 000 bushels, and after allowing 30.000. 000 bushels for spring seed require ments. estimated that 62,000.000 bushels of wheat remained In all positions as nf March 1 for export and carry over. The essence of this report was lost sight of by the trade. The domestic visible supply for the week decreased 1,915.000 bushels end totals 70.677.000 bushels, compared with 64.072.000 bushels a year ago. The supply of wheat and flour on the ocean for the week Increased 3,620,000 bushels. The gain wan much smaller, than looked for. In view of the heavy world shipments. The previous week, when World shipments totaled 18,993.000 bushels, stocks on the ocean Increased 1 1.000,000 bushels. Last week’* world shipments were about as large, totaling 13.83 4,000 bushels It Is apparent that Kurops Is consuming the great bulk of the wheat headed that way and this suggests a sustained foreign demand In the world market. Hr KICHAKI) M’ll l AM: I'nlversul Mervice Financial Editor. N’«*\v York, March 2.—From start to finish today It was the same story ns to tin* stock market. Most securities went to higher prices. There was no halt or reaction. A considerable number of is sues established record high prices. The rolls were very strong. Only the St. J'aul issues were conspicuously weak. Again the oils were the market leaders, with Uan.AtuerWan beading the group. The steels were less prominent than, usual Some of the lesser corporations! specializing In particular kinds of *teel production made large gains. United States Stce| moved within very narrow limits, a 11 hough strong at sli stages ot the session. Of (lie equipment* American T.ornmn 11 ’. e wss the most vigorous and resilient, making a new high for sll time and hold. Ing nearly all nf the gain American I’nn did the same. Motors and various other groups went higher. Of the principal groups only th* coppers were laggards Business, temporarily at least, is poor with them. United States Cast Iron Tips, after a period of quiescence, showed gymnastic tendencies again, .lumping nearly 10 points and closing T^e up French francs again were weak. Uoffee was up .10 to 60 points. Sugar ruled unchanged to 1 point down Grains, wheat especially, were very ac tive. Liverpool was very poor In Its re sponse to Saturday’s market. Due to come 4lAtf7r»Ud up the British prices were nnly %&%d up when that exchange rinsed. At Chicago, after an early show of weakness, the bulls made a vigorous ef fort to control the situation. They put May up to $2.02 ami seemed to be In a fairly strong position, but It soon ap. pea red as If they merely created an ex cellent market for the bears to sell. A large amount of profit-taking plus a vig orous bear movement soon weakened the market and thereafter the hulls never were able to resume command Export orders were small and late In the session 1 he bear sentiment was strong With no relief from the drouth condl Mens in the southwest, cotton continued ■limbing. There was nothing in the way of h rapid advance but rather a slow *nd generally steady rise. New York Quotations V / New York. March 2—.Stock price* gave an inrpreaaivo demonstration of strength in today * active market. Several high priced rails, including Atchison, reached record prces while marked bouyancy was shown by a number of oils, public utili ties, equipments and steel* Buying ap • arently was bused on speculative execu tions of a sharp Improvement in busi ness within the next few weeks.
