N#w York Feb. ?7.—Thera waa little
evidence in the stock market enrly today
that the advance In the rediscount rate
of the federal reserve bank was to have
the unsettling influence bearlahly inclined
person* expected. A few stocks were
weak but ‘Fi© market as a whole v. as
rather steady. This weakness was not
so much due to aggressive selling ea
the unwillingness of those who *»re
sponsor* nf the laauea to support thein.
'I here was no flood of selling or s'gn of
a ggresstveuesa on the part of the pro
fessional hears.
The market then developed Into a
mixed sort of an affair, with the timid
or the wary lessening the'r commitments
and i he pool managers of various grade*
bidding up their specialties moderately.
This continued with the market rather
mixed In oha-aoter until announcement,
came of the Increase in the call money
rate to f. per cent. A fair amount of
liquidation resulted and the market be
< a me generally irregular.
There were wide moves in som* issues,
but mostly In specialties nut particularly
prominent.
Generally the market was Irregular and
confuse*! throughout the da>. The trend
throughout th«» list was downward l*t«
In the day and the close was, an a rule,
lower.
Nearly all the rails sold off.
Grains were quite strong for moat of
the session and particularly strong up to
the last hour.
At the close wheat waa up IS1' to 2«h,c.
corn was unchanged to \r down, ohm

l ard was off 12 to 15 points
Totton waa fairly strong and moder

operators began to get worried about the,
Texas situation. The possibility of ra n
in Texas led to selling by some of the
bull*. The early gain waa wiper] out
snd closing prices were from l up for
March to from 16 to 21 points down for

Toffe* generally was dull and closed
