For two exciting, busy weeks In the year, they reign supreme. Parents defer their own social plana to provide motors for the younger members of the family and give over billiard rooms and private dance floors to the more agile lot. Misses Dorothy and Margaret Higgins are reunited with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Higgins and brother, Allen, for the holidays. Miss Dorothy attends Miss Spence's school in New Yofk and her younger sis ter is a' pupil at Brownell Hail. Miss Margaret was hostess at a dinner party Monday night at the Brandels, and on Friday evening she entertained again very informally at her home. Parties fill their every day during these gav weeks. * —— Miss LUcile Uehling, who attends Mrs. Pratt’s School of Individual In / . structlon, was hostess at a bridge luncheon of 10 tables December 23 at one j of the first of the holiday parties. Career - Home Combination Solved By "GABBY.' FOUND, a woman who believe# that tit* career home combina tion can't be satisfactorily put together. ^ And, she is willing to give up the career, part of it. except Insofar as it can be furthered without sacrifice to her two children, about whom she has ‘'theories,” believing that proper care for them cannot Ire purchased. j Mrs. Sidney J. Baker is the heroin* of the story. Since the first of April shs has marketed 52 stories to rari- ! oug publications. Thirty-nine of then! hare gone to a bankers' publication, i "Getting On." They sre thrift stories, with characters and plot. The maga zine has a million circulation. It goe* to large Banks for their clientele. The First National bank of Omaha is one of the subscribers for 10.W«i copies. Oddly enough, "Getting On" is pub lished by two uncles of Mrs. Herman Auerbach, who as Miss Ella Fleish man w%* recognized as one of Oma ha's best newspaper writers, and who ! is now selling stories and plays t» ogtside publications. So well have the editors of "Getting On" liked Mr*. Baker's work that they offered her a position last week as assistant editor on their staff. It was temping, of course. j "We rould move to Chicago easily enough." *aid Mrs. Baker, "for Mr. Baker could do his work as well from there as from Omaha, but I hav* theories’ about my children, and feel that at no price can I afford to leave them." Maybe Mrs. Raker is writing tnt# her own life a lessen on thrift in ltg truest sense. •-*_ AMONG the loveliest of parting gifts given Miss Eleanor Burk, ley when she left Omaha Christmas night to sail today for Paris, was one from Mr. end Mrs. James E. Davidson, Mr. IHividSOU having been king when she was gueen of AkSar-Ben last year. jj The gift this an unusual snd most attractive leather purse with her gold \ monogrnna hanging from a dainty, * matching cord. And. thoughtful donor*—the rurse was just the size for the travelers passport. LIMOUSINES. dlsmond*. and fur* were common enough a* Christmas gifts in Omaha, r.ot to lie remarked. A gift came from Germany, how ever, more unusual, perhaps more interesting. FoUr wonderful Boiler canaries were received from Eelpsic. Germany, by H. W. Wendland. The birds hav* j a great variety of rolls and tour*, sfl their notes being soft snd sweet. They are a prize winning lot, their [breeder in 1S2S having received th* j Golden Medallion for the highest j scoring bird. _ - These are the only birds of their ! kifid in the city, with th* exception S of some owned by Fred Martin. They J were ordered s* Christmas present# one for each of Mr. Wend land's ltttl* nieces, Mary Irene and Jane Pulver, one for his non, Prentice, and th* fourth for the children's grand* mother, Mrs. C.
