BRITISH TROUBLES ^ Tooted Explorer Says “Petti coat Government” Is Caus ing National Decline. I-ondon, Dec. 19.—The eolld old British Empire Is crumbling, and woman Is to blame. If we may be lieve the wall of Mitchell Hedges, noted explorer and research expert, who has launched an attack against "petticoat government.” Singularly enough, Mitchell Hedges, who is now planning at expedition into British Honduras, has been as sisted in many of his explorations by a woman—Eady Richmond Brown. "One of the prime reasons for the bad trade conditions existing in this country is undoubtedly the loss of the pioneer spirit,” declared Mitchell Hedges. "It is to those fearless men who went out to unknown parts, faced Im mense difficulties, took big risks and triumphed that we owe the Empire our world-wide commerce and pres tige that the country has throughout our colonies and foreign lands. Women Creep Into Power. “But today the bacillus of Inertia has crept Into the system of Britons to such an extent that we are rapidly losing both our world wide trade and our morale. There are three chief reasons for this state of affairs: "Excessive taxation. "Uncertainty of our political sit uation. "The Insidious way In which women are creeping Into power. "It Is foolish not to face facts, and, k as the history of the world shows the day women are allowed to become equal with man marks the first stage of the degeneracy of a nation's man hood. “The suggestion that women of 21 should have a vote Is on the face_ of it ridiculous. There would then be the certainty, because of the preponder ance numerically of woman over man, of the female vote exceeding the male vote—petticoat government! Effeminacy ftpreading. "Physically the average woman can never be equal to the average man, for the simple reason that from the stone age upward It has been man's great mission to protect the female and her children. "The day this law of nature Is re versed sees the first step in the de generacy of man. The history of the primitive tribes Is an evidence of the fact. "In th* case of the Roman empire, one of the chief reasons for Its fall was the worship of women, with Its attendant indulgence in luxury and ease. ''Automatically, as the female rises to a dominating position over the male, effeminacy rapidly spreads among the manhood of a nation. "It is necessary today that the manhood of this country should as sort itself in a rigorous manner. The suggestion of a petticoat government is s ckening to a degree.” JAP TO BE TRIED ’ IN IOWA COURT P.
