“bulls” Went bn another rampage in
today's stock market, boosting 101
stocks to new maximum quotations
for the year on total sales that ran
above the 2,000,000 share mark for
the 13th time since election day. Net
gains tn the active Issues ranged 1
to S'i points.
Veteran traders and market
analysts had to turn hack the pages
ot financial history nearly 25 years

"railroad market” to equal the pres
ent on* in volume and breadth.

flame, which burned with increased
fury today as a result of the favor
able Impression created by the presi
dent's message to congress yesterday,
in which he looked with approval on
railroad consolidations and urged the
passage of legislation to expedite
them on the grounds of economy.
Southern carriers led the advance
in the rail group, Frisco common and
preferred, “Katy" common and pre
ferred the three Wabash issues, St.
Fouls Southwestern, Omaha and
“Soo” being bid up one to nearly six
points. High grade dividend payers
followed in their wake, Pennsylvania,
l Atlanttc Cddst line, Illinois Central
J common and preferred, Chesapeake
& Ohio and Baltimore & Ohio being
among the long list of new tops.
Tn their zeal to get aboard the
“band wagon” speculators dug up
many Issues that ordinarily are not
traded In for weeks or months at a
time. Atlanta. Birmingham & At
lantic, which has bden in receiver
ship since 1021, was bid up to $5 a
share as against a low of $2.87 1-2 yes
terday, an appreciation in quoted
value of nearly 66 per cent. Several
other ordinarily Inactive Issues took
on a new lease of Ufe, the number
of Individual Issues of all classes
dealt in during the day being 554 as
against the record of 575 on Novem
ber 19.

today upheld the revised assessment
of $9,571,496 placed on Rock Island
ho'dings in Nebraska for 1923 by the

and was adjudged excessive by the
supreme court. The court held that

The county attorney’* office I* go

According to Jlenry Beal, detective
agencies in Omaha are turning out
"home grown" detectives at the rate
of 10 a day.
"Anyone can be a ’detective’ if he
is willing to pay $75 for a correspon
dence course and shield," declares
Beal.
Attention has been called to the
private detective agencies by the case
of William Elliott, William Dunn and
William Lofton, now being tried in
district court on charges of imper
sonating officers.
Eliott is chief of detective* and
Dunn and Lofton sergeants of the
C. A. Sherman Secret Service, Inc.,
whose national headquarters are lo
cated in the Woodmen bt the World
buildinfe.
Lawyer Says Duped.
The defendants’ attorney, John
Adams. Is trying to prove that the
men were duped by the detective
school and really believed they were
private detectives.
The three men were arrested by
Detectives William Davis and Harry
Buford after numerous complaints
had been made to police that three
men were “shaking down-' negroes In
the vicinity of Blondo gtreet.
Witnesses testified Thursday morn
ing In Judge Fitzgerald's court that
Elliott and two companions had
searched them, taking their valuables

nan. divorced wife of Christopher
Tiernan, one of Lincoln's wealthiest
citizens, today was granted $40,000
alimony by the supreme court. Un
der the court's bolding this alimony
sets aside a prenuptial agreement by
which Mrs. Tiernan was to be given
an interest. In certain property hold
ings of Tiernan after his death. Tier
nan Is 82 years of age. She was
Tiernan's third wife.

old and leaves his wife. Burial will

Men Seeking Office
Candidates Divided Among
23 National Parties and
28 Local Factions.

Berlin, Dec. 4.—No less than 7,625
candidate* are trying to land politi
cal Jobs in the German and Prussian
parlaiments alone at the German
general elections next Sunday. Of
these 4,638 are trying to get into the
German reichstag and 2,887 Into the
Prussian diet.
Those candidates are divided among
23 national parties and 28 other local
factions, making a total of 51 politi
cal parties In the campaign. This con
dition, while it shows up the con
tinued disunion in Germany, is an Im
provement over the election of last
May when 75 parties and factions
were In the field.
The socialist paper, Vorwaerts, to
day published as a part of its elec
tion fight against the “stab in the
hack legend." by which the nation
alists blame the revolution for the
loss of the war, the expert analysis
of the real reasons for losing the war
ns gtven before the reichstag Investi
gating committee last March.
One of these expert.". General von
Kuhl, declared that the real reason
was "the appearance of the Ameri
cans In such undreamt of numbers
on the western battle front.”
Prof. Hans Delbrouck, another ex
pert, said:
"The real guilty one was the leader,
and if one wishes, the circle which
stoo'd behind him and trusted him
but were really deceived by him.
who, in his unbridled ambition, sacri
ficed the blood of the German people
for alms which the majority did not
want at all and which were not in
the real interest of the German peo
ple."
It is assumed that Prof. Delbrouck
refers to General Ludendorff. who
w*s the practical dictator of Ger
many at the end of the war.

Judging of dogs was In progress
at the City Auditorium Thursday aft
ernon and evening, whets the Ne
braska Kennel Hub Is holding Its sec
ond annual show.
Half a million dollars' worth of
dogs are being exhibited, arcordlng to
estimates made by fanciers who at
tended the show last night. All avail
able space on the main floor of the
Auditorium ia filled with dogs of 3o
different breeds.
Many of the dogs have triumphed
In other shows about the country.
There is "Sun Yet Sen," declared the
best of the Pekinese; and the beauti
ful pointer, "Queen’s Royal Daugh
ter." owned by W. C. Edmlston of
Ralston, a winner at the Kansas City
and Des Moines shows.
Among those declared winners yes
terday were two Springer spaniels,
"Bloom of Minot," owned by John
Stewart of Minot, 8. D., and "Port
of Avondale,” an Imported dog owned
by B. E. Jones.
Ronald Slmonsen. 8, son of H. D.
Slmonsen. German police dog breeder,
was the youngest exhibitor. He stood
proudly In the ring beside “Bonne
Ete Belle," hie Cocker spaniel, which
took first, second and reserve prizes.
Ronald has the faculty of "making
up" with any kind of a dog, and dem
onstrated it by patting the heads of
several dogs which might be classed
as vicious.

LEAGUE MEETING

fairs, arrived this evening en route
to Rome to attend the league of na
tions council meeting there next
week.
Shortly after his arrival. Chamber
lain issued the following statement:
