Case Trial.

London, Nov. 25.—Technical evi
dence understood to deal with strange
rites of oriental women entered Eng
land’s $750,000 blackmail case today.
As It was Introduced, Mrs. Maude
Robinson, the comely beauty whose
intimacy with a young prince from
India netted her husband and asso
ciates $750,000, was forced to leave
the court room. She had to be as
sisted and seemed on the verge of
collapse as she made her way out.
The questions were of such a na
ture that they were submitted and
answered In writing.
The evidence was Introduced by
John Simon, counsel for the Midland
bank, who requested dismissal of the
, suit on the ground that Charles Rob
4 Inson, former bookmaker of London,
' had not established a case in h!s at
tempt to recover the bulk fif the
blackmail proceeds. Lord Darling re
fused the request and ordered the de\
fense to continue.
Sir Richard Havelock Charles, sur
geon to the king and formerly a prae
tleioner in India, testified ho knew
the religious customs of that country.
Four questions were submitted In
writing to the surgeon. He wrote his
answers, which passed from the hands
of counsel to Lord Darling, presiding
Judge and the Hi men and two women
—I? composing the jury.
Dr. Mary Seharlieb, famous woman
physician, was then called. She said
she understood customs of native
women in the far east. The same
questions were submitted to her. Her
answers substantiated those of Sir
Charles.
It is understood the questions re
ferred to eastern rites which, Mrs.
Robinson and Mrs. Bevan, her com
panion, were alleged to have under
gone to meet the customs of the
country of the young potentate, desig
nated in the court room as "Mr. A."

Mystery surrounds the death of
Charles Rogers, nephew of Mrs. Og
den Reid, wife of the owner of the
New York Herald-Tribune, of New
York City, whose body was found in
the automobile of Miss Marjorie
Schneider, on a road just outside New
Haven, Conn, where he was em
ployed as a bond salesman. Ills
•skull was fractured, and Miss Schnei
dar was too serlosuly injured to tell

Action Expected on Income
Tax Figures Published
by Newspapers.
The federal grand jury that recon
vened Monday is expected to take
action on publicity given income tax
returns by newspapers in Omaha as
well as to dispose of other cases that
have hen pending for several months.
United States District Attorney
Kinsler declined to say what evidence
he would present. The grand jury's
investigation is part of the attorney
general's plan to bring Indictments
against newspapers throughout the
country for a series of test cases.
The grand jury was to Investigate
James B. Minort, Torrlngton (Wyo.)
minister, who is under arrest in con
nection with a crime against two
girls.
Other cases to come before the Jury
are that of a soldier at Fort Omaha
accused of forcing discharge papers,
an Italian accused of seeking to ex
tort $5,000 through the mail from V.
P. Chlodo, 20 Indian and 75 liquor
cases.
Motorist Held Up.
Two unmasked bandits, armed with
heavy caliber revolvers, held up and
robbed Albert J. Cad,ek, 1104 South
Fifty-sixth street, Monday night as
he drove his automobile Into the
hack yard of his home.
The robbers obtained a diamond
ring, a diamond stick pin and about
$40 In cash. The diamonds were
valued at $$oo.

Re-Elected President at
Convention.
El Paso, Tex., Nov. 25.—Samuel
Gonipers, who has headed the Amer
ican Federation of Labor almost con
tinuously for 44 years, today was re
elected president at the closing ses
sion of the federation's convention
here.
With Gonipers, the entire executive
council of the federation was re
turned to office.
When today's sessions convened,
the convention had before It only
(lie election of officers and the report
of the international labor relations
committee. In line with the action
it lias taken for several years, the
committee recommended American
adhesion to the league of nations and
the world court. It urged non-con
currence in a resolution opposing
Americas' entrance into the league
and in the court.
At the same time, the convention
declared that the league should op
pose all measures to perpetuate the
serfdom of the sea which has been
one of the fundamental principles of
the federation.
Under a speedy schedule the federa
tion was expected to close its conven
tion before nightfall, a day earlier
than the time originally set for ad
journment. This was made possible
by the fact that no serious opposi
tion has developed to the policies ad
vocated by the administration. Gomp
ers and his officers have not been
successfully opposed on a single is
sue brought before the meeting.
Apartment Robbed.

ed his apartment during his absence
and escaped with $160 in cash and
a small amount of jewelry.

Alonzo Jackson, city fireman, told I
hit wife, Mary, that he would have

she stated In her suit for divorce in
district court Monday.
Mrs. Jackson stated In her petition
that Saturday Jackson chased her
and her five children from their home
at 4518 Saratoga street, threatening
to kill them.
She claims that when her husband
becomes angry he takes a stick and
goes about knocking their geese in
the head and allowing their bodies
to lie about the yard.
She states that Saturday he threw
his 21-year old son on the ground and
choked him.
