M„ Nov. 4.—Despite protests of business men snd citizens of Las Vegas, martial law was pro claimed In San Miguel county, of which Taj Vegas Is the county seat, last night. The proclamation became effective at 7 p. m. and was brought here from Roswell, signed by Gover nor ,T. K. ] Unite), by Adjutant Gen ual J. W. Skipwlth. General Skipwlth announced that state national guardsmen who ar rived before dawn this morning, would not in any way attempt to in tluence or direct voters at the polls, hut that they would be assigned to police duty In each precinct. It was announced that Governor Hinkle has placed the entire situa tion in San Miguel county in the hands of the adjutant general and that tlie letter is authorized to take whatever action he nmy deem neces sary. State guards to the number of about 150, sent here from Santa Ke end Albuquerque, were ordered out last night after seferal officers, who had spent part of the day here on the eve of the election had conferred over the telephone with Governor Hinkle. They will lie on duty, It was said, at least until the boxes con taining the ballots cast today have been returned to the courthouse. The decision to send troops here was due, it was said, to feeling that has been aroused over the suspension re cenlly by District Judge D. J. Leahy of Sheriff Lorenzo Delgado. Marion, III., Nov. 4.—National guardsmen today were stationed at various polling places of Williamson county on request of Sheriff George f'alligan, who announced last night rumors of alleged Intimidations of voters had reached him. The issue in the county election Is between the Ku Klux Klan and Us republican candidates for county offices are known to have been assured the sup port of the klan, in view of the fact that the democratic county commit tee recently adopted a resolution con demning the klan. That the entire amount of tax so levied and assessed on any of said lots mr.y be paid by the owner of any lot, or the entire equal pro rata proportion of said tax on any of said lots may be paid by any person on any part of said lots within fifty -lava from said levy and thereupon, said lots nr parts of lots shall be exempt from any lien or charge thereto.
