h BRIDGE STARTED |P i \< ( iili\c (iommitlee Says D<* ■ la\ Damaging to Doug K las County. ■ expressing i heir belief that both V 1 r i tig I'm ami Saunders counties are K sniViMin;- through lack of direct IT I'oinmunicailon, due to delay in con B i-.ruci am of a new bridge across t tie ■■ Ij.air river. Hie executive coinmit jf la.- of ilie (‘liainher of Commerce yes Bp* t' .day afternoon urged lhat there be IP ii" further delay in construction. The location of t lie proposed bridge B lias been the subject ot considerable K controversy and there is at present if a pelllion to the Saunders county R court asking for an injunction K a;;ainst the building of the bridge. V The matter was presented to the H executive committee by the highways P committee of the chamber which K l>ointed out that the joint good roads P committee, Omaha Automobile club 31 and Chamber of Commerce have E worked consistently for the lust seven !?• years in an endeavor to bring about Ii the opening of a new highway V through the construction ot the r|‘ bridge. The controversy between con i' flicting property owners on both §; sides of the river, however, has pre I xented any definite action being f. taken with the result that this mat | ter has dragged out indefinitely un * til this year when the two county boards met with the state engineer and decided on a location, the at titude of the chamber, the joint conimiitee and other organizations being that they wanted a bridge re gardless of location. The two boards, with the state en gineer selected the Center street loca tion, presumably for the reason that federal aid money could be secured to build the bridge at that location as Center street has had federal aid funds expended on it for grading purposes and for gravel work, thus definitely fixing it as a federal aid load.
