Prices of Wheat Go Up Steadily and Close at Top Bu'lli'li Construction Placed on Canadian Report and Foreign Demand for Winter Crain Belter. B.v I H \KI.1> .1. LKtUKN. I iiiterMl Service Staff 4'orre*|>«inilcnt. t'hlcag". Aug. .12. Hull fever in wheat appreciably revived today. Price* -proved forward from the mart and closed »«t. the top. A bullish construction of t»he • 'nnatlinn government’s eorp report com bined with possible frost over that coun try and hotter foreign tleimirfd for hard n inirV grain to bring about the ad V'nve. Wheat closed 2% to 2%c higher; corn e Was l •*«, *o 3%c higher: onts were *% to K higher, and rye ruled 1% to 2 %r «d x anced. Local trader* supported wheat persl* 1*ntly through the session. Plenty of commission house selling was on tap. but the character of the buying, credited to exporters, tended to engender a more « i'eerful feeling all around. Export sales from Chicago were confirmed at 625.000; bushels, while there were rumors that around 1.000,000 bushels were taken. Weather conditions over the corn belt me becoming very favorable, and with the crop late the trade Is alive to the Possibilities of a much shorter crop than lips been indicated. Cash corn was in good demand at firm premiums. The movement from the country has improved ffonie of late, but is not expected to con t inue. Oats were helped upward by the bullish Import of the Canadian crop report. The oats c rop in western Canada, is estimated m 217,10 000 bushels, against 391,756,000 bushels raised last year. Rye trade was not very active. hut prices ad winced easily, pressure being absent. Production of rve in t'anada this year is less, than half of last yearn har vest. Provisions were easy through the ses sion. Lard closed 2% to 7%c down ami rilis finished 10 to 12%<* lower. Pit Not,**. Much of the buying of wheat futures whs in the- nature of short covering. Wheat conditions over i he Canadian Worthw esl were vucli as to check short Helling. Several points in Manitoba veri fied heavy frost. anti the fore* ant was for continued cool weather over the great er part of western Canada. Tempera tures were reported as low' as 22 degrees d Wove zero. The Canadian crop is laic. Reporta had It that in Alberta harvesting of wheat generally starts between the 10th ; f»d- 15th of August, but that this year it tvould not commence until the first week of September. Even should favor able weather be experienced for the next fw weeks the yields are not expected i*» he anywhere near last year. The trade looks for a reduction of around 200.000. ¥00 bushels in the Canadian crop, com pared with 1923. The demand for cash wheat In most of the domestic markets was livelier with premiums firm. The advanced premiums in the southwest have checked the work ing uf wheat to titis market. The move ment of wheat off the farms is expected to dwindle presently, especially in the > «>utb w cat. In the middle west farmers have not commenced to sell. The crop in tins part of the country i* repotted disappointing, especially from many sec tions of Illinois. Apparently Europe j* becoming more concerned for her future needs. Broom ball says that because of the uncertainty • if the outcome of the Argentine and Aus ’ kalian crops buyers are beginning to take hold. World supplies and demand this > ear is going to be closely adjusted, and it will be a case of biriding for require ments on this crop whereas last year for eign buyers "sat back" through the Rea son an<l accepted wheat almost Invariably at concessionary levels.
