Wlmbeldon, July 2.—Miss Helen Wills, California girl and America's champion, went Into the finals of the tennis tournnment today by defeating Miss Phyllis Satterthwalte of England, 6-2, 6-1. She will meet Miss Kathleen McKane, England's first ranking woman player, In the final match to morrow. Mrs. Satterth walte’s old-fashioned underhand drives were no match for the modern and more versatile gnme of the American champion. Miss Wills, to the disappointment of every one, will not find Mile. Lenglen facing her in the finals, due to the French woman’s default. She will meet Miss Kathleen McKane of Great Britain. m Miss Wills started cautiously today, f contest with a base lino duel, and | the games went with the service until the California girl crashed through the British woman's service to take a commanding lead. Miss Wills after that came forward opportunely for finishing smashes, winning the first set, 6-2. Miss McKane went Into the final round by the default of Suzanne Len glen, French star and winner at Wim bledon for the last five years. Her doctor advised her to withdraw. R. Walter Hagen, the American profes sional, holder of the British cham pionship, finished second with a total of 293. Tolley’s cards for his four rounds were 73, 73, 71, 73. Hagen, less con sistent, was most brilliant at the fin ish. After rounds of 75 and 72 yes terday, he fell off in this morning's round and took a 77.
