FARMER BELIEF _ .__ ► 1 Democratic Leaders Plan to Ignore League of Nations in Platform. By W11XI.AM K. HUTCHINSON. | InternatlonNl New* Service Staff < or respondent. N»w York, June 23.—The demo cratic presidential campaign thl* fall will he fought with official corruption and agricultural relief as the main Is sues under the terms of a tentative platform adopted here today by an unofficial group of nationally known democratic leaders. The document will be submitted to the national convention’s committee's on resolutions tomorrow with indica tions that few changes will he made by the official platform builders. The conferees, led by Cordell Hull, democratic national chairman, and Homer T. Cummings, chairman of the resolutions committee, reached a decision to keep the T.eague of Na tions out of the campaign and to leave the final verdict on a Ku Klux Klan plank to the convention itself. Glass Walks Out. The verdict to Ignore the league - as a national Issue was reached after [ a bitter factional row between the i conferees In secret session. ! It was learned that Senator Glass, who was chairman of the platform committee, "walked out" of the scs slons after Ills league recommenda tions were rejected. It was also said Class would refuse to serve upon the Mk^nommlttee upon resolutions this year H^nrhat he can lend a fight on the floor of ths convention for endorsement of the league. The Ku Klux Klan Issue also pro voked heated discussions In the un official sessions. A small group, rep resenting New York and Iilllnols, de manded the Inclusion of a plank di rectly denouncing the klan by name. This proposal was rejected by the con ferees, but tentative approval wne given to & plank declaring In favor of constitutional guarantees for "free dom of seech" and "religious liber ties." This plank, which contained a clause declaring for "continued separ atlon of the state and churrh," did not me»t. with unanimous support and a "gentlemen'a agreement" was reached to let the full committee on resolutions write Its own klan plank. Farm Relief 1’lank The agricultural plank upon which the democrats hope to wdn the west, promises a reduction In rail rates '■ with the lowest rates given to bulky farm products, easier federal credit facilities and steps toward develop ment of European markets. As an additional agricultural remedy the plank declared for a corn plete revision of the Fordney McCum her tariff law. A railroad plank was approved by I the unofficial conferees declaring for a reorganization of the freight rate structure. The Each-Cummins law also was condemn'ed ss r failure and its repeal or amendment urged. MJ.S. togetbid TO LONDON MEET Inter-Allied Conference on Reparation* Set for July 16. n> AsvH'lRtfd Pre*e.
