Allen Wins W ith Ease.
All Over, carrying the colors of the
C. B. Irtvln stable romped home to
win the Nebraska Handicap, feature
race of the day, by a nose. Speedball,
leader from the start, hotly contested
the going in the stfetch and lost a
game fight. He placed. Louis A
came in for show and Abadane. pride
of the Irwin string, came last.
Twelve race horses, each trained to
the pink of condition, faced the bar
rier in the opening event on the rac
ing card at Ak-Sar-Ben track Thurs
day afternoon. And 12 striving run
ners passed under the wire at the
Imish of the six-furlong sprint, the
hindmost hardly seven length behind
the leader.
That was the opening of a day
marked by good races.
The track was fast and the sun
shone as if it was determined to
make up for the days when it desert
ed the race meeting.
Jack Fountain found the day and
the track to his liking and managed
to win this first event. He was
forced to run ga.mely to shake off
the closing challenge of Virgo, while
Miss Paige forced Virgo to run his
l est to place.
The winner paid $8.60 to win. $7
to place and $5.60 to show. Virgo
paid $6.SO to place and $5.20 to show.
Miss Paige paid $4.40 to show.
Bobby Allen Easy Winner.
Bobby Allen nearly ran away from
his field in the second eyent. Aside
from his hard-driven but easy vic
tory the field was well bunched and
recond and third places were in doubt
until the wire was passed.
Bess Welch came with a rush in
the stretch and challenged Bobby
Allen. She was running a hangup
tace, but could not get up to win.
Cannonball rushed along at the heels
of the little mare and succeeded in
taking third money.
Bobby Allen paid $3.60 to win. $3
to place and $2.40 to show. Bess
, Welch paid $6 to place and $3.20 to
how. Cannonball paid $2.60 to show.

herself out in the stretch to win
nicely.
Spicebush, contesting every foot of
the way down the stretch with the
Witjner, and Fernandos, placed, beat
ing Fernandos cut of second money
by a head.
The winner paid $21.60 to win, $9.00
to place and $4.SO to show. Spicebush
paid $10.20 to place and $5.40 to show.
Fernandos paid $3.20 to show.
( lose Finish
Jim Daisy, stout hearted son of The.
Manager-Waterblossom, led his field
under the wire in the fourth event.
The runner got away poorly and came
up in a rush to win. Feodor con
tested the way with him after hav
ing run well back up to the final
turn for home. Feodor would have
won, so close was he, had he not
hurtg at the end. Top O' The Morning
all but left at the barrier, raced game
ly and closed a big gap to show.
The finish was exceptionally close.
The winner took first honors by a
nose. Second honors went to Foodor
by the same margin and Top O' Th'
Morning was slightly more than a
head to the good over Lucky Hays.
Jim Daisy paid $5.40 to win. $3.60
to place and $3.00 to show Feodor
paid $7.80 to place and $4.20 to show.
Top O’ Th’ Morning paid $3.20 to
show.
Lavinia showed her wisdom in the
sixth event of the day. She allowed
Xan McKinney to step out and set
the early pace then, rounding the last
turn, closed rapidly and won almost
at will. Xan McKinney tired in the
stretch and Flaxy Mae stepped out
to take second place comfortably.
The winner paid $14.60 to win, $5 to
place, and $3 to show. Flaxy Mae
paid $3.40 to place and $2.60 to show.
Xan McKinney paid $2.40 to show.
The long shot of the day came in
the closing event when Orleans Girl,
under the skillful handling of A. Pen
dergrass, came up from the rear to
win by a length. She paid $64 to win,
$25.60 to place, and $12.60 to show.
Lothair, second best, paid $8.20 to

pacebaker and game fighter, came in
tor show and paid $6.80.

British Women
Defeat Americans
for Wightman Cup
Helen Wills Drops Straight
Sets to English Champ—
Moll a Mallory Loses
to M rs. Covell
Wimbledon, Eng., June 19. — The
■Wightman Cup—which is to the
women's tennis world what the Davis
Cup is to the men's—was taken out
of American possession this after
noon when the British champion.
Miss Kathleen McKane, defeated' the
American champion, Miss Helen
Wills In straight sets, 6-2, 6 2. The
home team having wop all of the
three matches yesterday. Miss Me
Kane's triumph over the California
girl this afternoon settled the issues
as to where the cup will remain until
next summer.
The British players went right on
winning even after the possession of
the ^up was determined. Mrs. Phyllis
Coveil, who defeated Miss Wills yes
terday’, defeated Mrs. Moila Mallory,
whom Miss McKane had also con
quered Wednesday. But this victory
was not so easy as the others had
been. For a time Mrs Maliory played
with more alertness, speed and stead
iness than she had ever before re
vealed on any court in England, tak
ing one set from Mrs. Coveil—the
first set that had fallen to the Amer
icans—and for a time threatened to
win the match. In this, however she
failed at the end, being defeated 6-2,
5-7, 6-3.
