Omaha Builders Can Match Your Plans. Read the Builders’ Ads Today ^ Measuring Stick for Candidates Set I p by Labor ‘■Rekival of Spirit of Honesty in Public Office” De manded Ivy American Federation. Washington, May 6.—The Ameri can Federation of laibor today enum erated the demands on which it will measure men, platforms and parlies during thp coming campaign. First of all it set forth, a "revival of the spirit of honesty, integrity and high-mindedness Jn public office," is necessary. "Astounding revelations < f the last few months" are referred to as proof of the need of i "great regeneration of American idealism" in public life. Other things enumerated deal with questions of labor welfare, taxation, the soldier bonus. International rela tions, curbing the power of the su preme court, immigration, abolition of the railroad labor board and the desire for world peace. The declaration, which was made by Ihe executive committee of the American Federation of I^ibor non partisan political campaign commit I lee, was signed by Samuel Gompers, r president; Frank T. Morrison, secre tary, and James O'Connell, head of the Metal Trades department. I.pss “Thou Shalt, Nnts.” It demands laws to "protect the helpless." to "abolish special priv ileges" and to free industry for the working nut of'its purely domestic prnhlem?: and to "make government more responsible to the needs of the l>enple and to deprive courts of the P' wer to rule ns well as to adjudi cat >." • "We need less 'thou shalt not' In our law." it says, "We need more law that helps get things done and less 'law that stops legitimate, ron .struetive effort." Asserting it to he the purpose of labor to “carry forward the great vie I tories of two years ago," the declara- | tion says revelations that "stagger; the imagination" have been witnessed and that "representatives of reaction and special privilege have fought to protect the enemies of the public we! fare." "More men must come into office,” It continues, "who will serve the peo ple faithfully and who will not he turned aside from (he path of public duty." . Among the demands for legislation, ; the first is for a permanent lmmlgra ■ tion policy. 1 rges Child labor Ijiw. The delegation calls for adoption of the child labor amendment. which has been reported in both the senate ! and house, and Insists on adjusted compensation for world war veterans. 1 nder the heading of "protection of rights," it declares labor has suffered encroachments on its rights by legis lative. executive and judicial author ity and demands enactment of a con stitutional amendment prohibiting the passage of any law nr tiie mak ing of any judicial determination "w hich would deny the right of work ers of the Fnited States and its ter ritories and dependencies to organize for the betterment of their conditions; to deal collectively with employers; to collectively withhold their labor and patronage and Induce others to do so " Tabor injunctions are denounced in the declaration and the demand is made for "final and complete aboli tion of ihe power of courts to Issue injunctions in labor .disputes under circumstances where no Injunctions would lie if no labor disputes were In existence."
