Rt \Morlitnl London, May 5.—As a result of Prime Minister Macdonald s confer ence with Premier Theunis of Bel gium bi Theiiuers Court over the week end, a new Interallied confer ence for making the liases repara tion plan effective Is closer at hand than has generally been expected, ac cording to the view of British officials w ho have had an opportunity to learn something of the informal conversa tions held at the premier's official country residence. The British view j* that another milestone lias been passed on the long road toward a reparation settlement and that two more are visible ahead. These are the French elections next •Sunday and the Belgian conference with Premier Mussolini at Milan May IS. If these are passed successfully Premiers Macdonald, Poincare and Mussolini are likely to meet in Lon don or Paris during June. The British foreign office consid ers the results of the Chequers Court conference satisfactory. For the first time since the Ruhr was occupied personal contact between the British * >d Belgisns and Indirect contact with France via established. The whole tone of the conversations was such that officials today were opti mistic despite the divergence of French and British views, which de veloped as Premier* Macdonald and Theunls explored various phases of the reparation problem.
