II* hnlf turned as if to start hack. Reddy Is-gan to run a little faster toward him. Suddenly Peter whirled and started toward Reddy Kox as fast as his legs could take hint. It was so sudden and unexpected that ltnddy didn't know what to make of It. Peter could see the surprise and uncertainty on Reddy's sharp face. “He'll think," thought Peter, "that I'm going to try to dodge him.” This is exactly what Reddy did think. So Reddy prepared to Jump either one way or the other after Peter. He knew that Peter might dodge him once or twice, hut he was sure Peter wouldn't he able to do more than that. Straight on came Peter. Reddy crouched ready to spring. His eyes were fixed on Peter so as to see which way Peter was going to dodge. Peter didn't dodge. At the point where Red I lie jumped right over ISeddy Fox dy expected him to dodge he seemed to run faster than ever, and then he made a flying leap in the air. Yes. sir, he made a flying leap in the air. ile jumped right over Reddy fox. You know, those stout hind legs of his were made for jumping. It was ail so unexpected and caught Reddy so by surprise that he didn't even jump up into thi air to catch I'eter as he sailed over. By the time Reddy had whirled around Peter was • streaking It straight for the dear Old Briar Patch. Reddy wasted no time, lie was after I'eter In a flash. Peter run his best. Reddy gained at every was already tired, and he couldn't jump. Three more jumps would take Refer into the dear Old Briar Patch and safety. Would he make it? I One! It seemed to I’eter that Reddy was right at his heel*. Two- Peter was sure that he felt Reddy * breath. Three!
