The Idaho former probate Judge, denied his last hope for stay of sen tence by the supreme court's refusal to intervene, went to the death be rhose In preference to hanging for the murder of his wife, Marietta, two years ago. Woods was convicted of one of the most revolting crimes in the history of homicide in the west. Shortly before 2 o'clock the after noon of Januarv 9, 1522. Woods stag gered from his burning apartment to tell exqited neighbors of a bandit at tack in which he had been knocked out and bound and his wife hut*. Firemen summoned to suppress the blaze found the body of Mrs. Woods charring on a pyre of benzine soaked bedclothes in a rear bedroom. Surgical examination revealed that her Jawbone had )s¥"n shattered by a blow, her throat strangled and the l>ody then set afire. Woods was held for in vestigation. Convicted of Murder. It developed he had purchased that day an unusual quantity of benzine and that shortly before he had taken out a policy on his wife's life in favor of himself carrying additional indemnity in case of death in a burn ing building. He was charged with first degree murder and convicted. Woods spent his last night on earth calmly. He ate a hearty sup* I>er of chicken.
