Total ship ment* were 136 cars against 173 car* a year ago. Omaha cash market was strong and with a good demand all along the line. Wheat samples changed hands at un changed to lc higher. Torn was strong unchanged to lVfcc higher. Oata sold He higher. Rye was quoted unchanged and barley 1 to 2c higher. Strong Uverpool wheat cables brought a higher range of laluen hi the Chicago market, despite weakness in foreign ex change. Some selling appeared on the upturn and values receded somewhat, but there was good support around Inside figure* and prices turned atrong whh an upward tendency. There was a more optimistic feeling in export, circles. Some acceptances of wheat overnight was re ported with bid near a worabi© basis. Corn and oata again registered new high levels for the season. Receipts were larger but the cash market reinaienn steady with a good demand for the offerings. An unex pected large decrease In visible wheat sup ply statement was responsible for most of the strength in that grain. Market News. BroomiiaJl Liverpool cable aa\a: The wheat remains about the same as Satur day. The break In sterling has inter fered with business and baiyera have temporarily withdrawn. Argentine par cels are firm with shippers' offerings light due to the uncertainly of exchange fluctuations. Corn steady but less active. The break in sterling on Saturday had an unsettled efect generally. Buyers are acting cau tiously as prices now rule very high. Spot markets are very firm. Buenos \lres cables: Wheat eteady to firm, principally due to the advancing exchange rate and to delay In receipts at the seaboard. Barge galea have been made for January shipment but after that the quantities sold are uncertain. The weather continues to favor the growing corn. Old Supplies are very lim ited and farmers are too busy with their wheat and oats to ship old corn to mar ket at this time. Ms. turktv,. 20c. By < IIAKLK8 J. JJSYOKV Chicago, Jan. 14 —Free selling of corn by eastern longs started a general wave of realizing in all pits today after new highs had been reached, prices break ing sharply to a weak and lover close. The early advance was rather spirited ar.d to mary marked the culmination ut the short Interest. So when holder* s' tempted to unload support was found wanting Wheat closed 4c to **c lower corn was %c to \r lower, oats were 4c to 4c lower and rye ruled 4c to 4c down. Considerable of the late wheat selling was credited to elevator Interests who were said to be spreading against out side Positions. Long wheat has been on tap for several daya but th© sustained strength In corn attracted sufficient buying activity to stabilize prices. Wheat and corn news was mainly bullish but was more than offset by the dis position of longs to reduce their lines A big trade prevailed In corn through out. The market advanced quickly to new high levels early but became over bought. The country In scattered a©e* tlotia is moving corn more freely, but generally farmers ar« not selling Also | outside points are overbidding Chicago downstate and In the west for corn, so that what dots move will largely go to other point*. It Is believed. oats were irregular at the last. Com mission house support was again in evi dence. but the reaction in other grains finally encouraged realizing. Rye failed to follow the early advance in other grains, nor did It sympathize with the subsequent break. Provisions dosed lower. Lard was 12 4c to 17 c Jov er and ribs were un changed. Pit Notes. The dscreast of s.uuu bushels In the United State* visible wheat t,upplv proved larger than many had ant" united. The primary movement ha* subsided notice ably since the turn ot the year, arid while the export demand for United States wheat has little Improved the dbf.esti consump tion has been ample to force inroads in supplies. Reports from * ho interior would indicate that the movjni;n> of -heat will continue small. From Minneapolis advices were re ceived to the effect that the country is not selling, one message saying that out of 32f> wires last week to the Interior in quiilng for wheat for country mills onlv one reply was received and that asked for two cents above the market price Milling trade In the southwest hit come more active, 'accotdmg to report*, mills there working t»t a gre-il per r»r I capacity. In this market mills haw- been absorbing choice grade* taking their wants largely from elevators. Premium.* on hard wheat today were advanced as much as four cents. Wheat and flour on ocean passage In creased 7S4.000 bushels for the week. World shipments were 1 4.966,000 bushels compared with J2.RR7.O00 bushels the pre vious we**k. Considering the movement of surplus wheat to importing countries and the changes on ocean passage ths figures show that Europe continues to consume wheat freely.
