Danny Meadow Mouse was feeling more and more at home. There were so many wonderful things to see that most of the time he forgot he was lonesome. In fact, the only times he really felt lonesome were when he curled up for his mips. He saw Mocker the Mockingbird often, and still more often heard nlm sing ing. Almost every day he saw Hum mer the Hummingbird. These glimpses of old friends made the sunny south seem less strange than it would have otherwise. Danny had kept away from the bank of the river since the day when he made the acquaintance of Gator the Alligator. It made him shiver every time he thought of that mouth ful of great teeth he had seen. Dut he hud learned that Gator wart not to be feared ou land unless one tame too near him. So one morning he again ventured over to the bank of the river.
