TAYLA/ND Opened With a -=B-A"N-G= Saturday—and Elizabeth Ann was so overwhelmed by the wonders of Toyland that she wrote a letter to her brother Jack, who is away off in some other city. Santa Claus was so pleased with the letter that he asked permission from Elizabeth Ann to publish it. THE BRANDEIS STORE TOYLAND. Dearest Brother Jack: I am so thrilled and excited that 1 can hardly write. I just came from a perfect Fairyland, just the kind you read about in books'; but this is a real, true one, on the Eighth Floor of The Brandeis Store, right here in Omaha. I went up with mother yesterday and, oh Jack, I just couldn’t eat a speck of supper for thinking about all the beautiful toys and things. We went down town right after breakfast. Mother read in the paper that Toyland was going to open, so we went right over and took an elevator up to the Eighth Floor. When I got off the elevator the million lights of Toyland just almost dazzled me. Oh, it was just beautiful. The place seemed blocks and blocks long and was divided into many, many little shops, and, Jack, what do you think! On each post was a huge electric lighted "whirli gig,” or something like that, that revolved all the time. Way over in one end of Toyland I saw a crowd of people, so I asked mother to walk there with me and, Jack, there was dear old Santa Claus. He looked so round and rosy that I just wanted to hug him. He was all dressed up in his usual red suit, trimmed witji white fur and he was making a speech. He told us all about his "Santa Circus” that performed after lie finished talking. Goodness me, hut lie was a wonderful Santa, he had been all over the world, in Germany, Austria, France, some hard names I can’t remember that used to be Bohemia, and lots of other places, and had brought, right to Omaha, things for the circus and marvelous toys for us to buy. Some expensive ones and some cheaper ones that mother said are,bar gains. Santa said so many cute, funny things, I just thought mother and I would die laughing, and then, oh Jack, his circus performed. Well, I just thought I was dreaming. There was a real circus ring with make-believe men and women and animals that actually moved just like they were really alive. A beautiful lady dressed in a marvelous green flow ing dress, walked the tight ropp, and, Jack, just by holding on with her teeth she rode along the rope; there were Japanese acrobats, performing mon keys, funny clowns and the bare-back rider was so lovely, all dressed in a pretty pink ballet dress aud she rode on the horse standing on the tips of her toes. 1 just can’t tell you what a wonderful circus it was. When it was over, mother and I began to explore the other parts of Toyland. Here and there were Christmas trees, all decorated just like the one we had at home last year. There were many large imitation Santas standing around that made me feel kind of scared, they were just like giants. We stopped at the cutest place to get a "hot dog” sandwich and some coffee. Isn’t it a clever idea to have "eats” up there? I was just starved, and everything tasted so good. Then there was a candy booth all decorated with Christmas things. T bought one of the stockings filled with goodies. Every section was fixed up so prettily with holly, tinsel and other Christmas decorations and, oh, Jack, the grandest toys. I know you wohld have gone wild about the mechanical trains and games. There were wonderful rocking horses, automobiles, the dearest doll houses I ever saw, walking animals, picture books, toy musical instruments and, Jack, I must tell you about the imported dolls that Santa brought from Europe. Oh, they were so sweet, they had beautiful long curls and eyes that opened and closed, some were "mamma” dolls that walked and talked and they were dressed in the stunningest clothes, and on other tables were dolly ten sets and furniture, even little wash stands and basins, well—just everything you could possibly think of. I never saw so many wonderful toys in all my life and such fresh, shiny, beautiful ones. The best part of all was, just before we left, Santa Claus called us over and, Jack, he himself gave me a lovely toy. I ’ll always keep it to remember that I actually saw Santa Claus and liis lovely Fairyland for boys and girls. It made me so happy, the world is so full of nice things and—oh, I just love Christmas, don’t you? • I’m so sleepy, Jack, dear, hut I just lmd to write to you about Toyland. I’m going up there lots of times before Christmas time comes. Please W’rite to ine soon and come home before long, so you can go to Toyland with ine.
