cording to Mnw. Sigrld Onegin, the
new contralto of the Metropolitan
opera company, who sings here on
Sunday at the Brandeis theater for
the Tuesday Musical club, .lust be

gin gave a series of recitals In Ger
many, and she reports all manner

of unsual circumstances prevailing
there.
“Values are so uncertain in Ger
many now,” commented Mme. One
gin, "that things which once were
considered Incidental have become
more expensive than .things which

are essential. In music this is strik
ingly exemplified. A singer’s gown,
for example, normally would repre
sent an outlay easily covered by a
small percentage of the receipts for
a concert. At present prices, the
gown costs more than one could pos
sibiy draw at the tiux office, even
when the house is completely sold
out.
"In America, programs are includ
ed in the price of admission, but
abroad they are usually sold for a
small sum. Yet when f left Per
many, they were charging more for
the program than for some of the
cheaper seats. In many cases, the
fare to reach the concert hall was
greater than the price of admission.
