    Leaps 50 Fget to Escape.
Los Angeles, Oct. 4.—W. B. Wil
liam. 25, wanted In Visalia. Cal., on
a minor charge, avoided arre«t oy
leaping 55 feet from the top of an
oil tank to the ground yesterday.
Sheriff Hill had heard Williams was
in the harbor district here and found
him on top of the tank. He ordered
Williams to come down. Williams
invited Hill to come up. The sheriff
started upward.
When he was Shout half way, Wil
liams leaped to the ground and es
caped.
3 Germans Die in Riot.
Hlndenburg, Germany. Oct. 4.—
Three persons were killed and three |
wounded in a clash between unem
ployed and police today.
$10 a Tourist.
Denver, Colo..' Oct. 4.—Four an'1
one-half million tourists visited Colo
rado tills season and spent on ail aver
ape of $10 each, or a total of $45,000,
000, acqording to estimates announced
today by the Denver Tourist bureau.
President Frank A. Bare, who an
nounced the figures, said the number
Of automobile tourists increased in the
1923 season from 614,000 to 643,000.

stations charge 9 rents a gallon for
gasoline and distilled water, used

Chicago. Oct. 4.—A new steam en
gine whose power will be nearly
double that of present types, with the
same expenditure of fuel by the use
of mercury vapors Instead of water
vapors, is being developed by the
General Klectric company, It became
known yesterday. __

St. Mary's avenue, was sentenced to
seven days in Jail for speeding, and
Wesley Coleman. 109 South Thirty
eighth avenue, drew a similar sen
tence on a charge of reckless driv

Billion More Harding Stamps.
Washington, D. C., Oct. 4.—One
billion additional Harding memorial
stamps were ordered printed today
by Postmaster General New. Two
lots of 800,000 already have been
printed. The stamps are of two-eent
denominations.
Denmark has 450 autobus lines.
