Omaha is the largest headquarters tor drainage contractors in the coun try. althought very little drainage work Is done in Nebraska, said Clyde S. Drew, drainage contractor, at the Rotary club meeting Wednesday noon. Mr. Drew was one of three executives who gave brief talks upon their businesses, the other two being recent arrivals in Omaha, L. Vaughn Griffin of R. G. Dun company, and 1. 3coe Taylor of the Western News paper Union. With eight firms having 40 drag line machines representing an Invest ment of $1,000,000, Omaha drainage ontractors handle an annual busi • as aggregating $1,875,000, all <-f which passes through the Omaha hanks. Most of the work is done in Iowa, Illinois, Missouri, and south rn states, less than $25,000 a year being done in Nebraska. Mr. Griffin spoke in rhyme con cerning the activities of R. G. Dun company in gathering information about mercantile houses, rating them, tccording to financial standing and presenting the findings to the busi ness world. He mentioned the pub lications of the agency. Dun's Re view, and The World's Markets, the former printed in several Ian • guages. At the close of his rhyme a motion was passed to print a copy of it in the next issue of the Ro tary Whirl. The Western Newspaper Union, ac cording to Mr. Taylor, is capitalized at $6,500,000, of which 85 per cent is owned by Omaha people. It does a business of $1,000,000 a week, which passes through the Omaha banks. Its general offices in this city direct the activities of 2,000 employes in all parts of the country. The Western Newspaper Union offers ready prints, stereotype plates, matrices, wholesale aaper, and many kinds of copy to Country newspapers. It owns its own paper mill In Ladysmith, Wls., and two pulp mills.
