Judge to Urge Whipping Post Magistrate Angered at Epi *"N».,demic of Wife Beatings in . . Smith Omaha. As the result of today's session of South Omaha police court Judge Wappich announced he will earnestly advocate a whipping post where wife beaters can be punished. "There seems to be an epidemic of wife-beating in South Omaha,” said Judge Wappich. "Husbands who beat their wives should be tied up and whipped. It's the only way.” The Judge's anger was particularly incited by Tt. Dupont, Thirty-sixth and U streets, who was arraigned lor drunkenness and disturbing the peace. Mrs. Dupont testified her husband heat her because she had allowed her little daughter, by a former husband, to bob her hair. Du pont was sentenced to 15 days in Jail and .threatened with 90 days 1 re peated his offense. Edward O'Decker. 2410 R street, was also arrested on the complaint of his wife and sentenced to 10 days in Jail. Bank Clerk Feted. Mips Frances Waller, 1077 South Thirtieth street, entertained Monday evening at her home for Miss Helen Gabriel, who for the past five years has been a clerk in the Live Stock National bank. Miss Gabriel is leav ing for Chicago. Other guests were employes of that bank. " Five-Weeks’ Trip. Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Melcher, 2802 F street, left last night on a five Weeks’ trip which will take them to Duluth, and on the return to Co lumbus, Wis., where they will visit relatives. II.—Hi* wedding clothe*, ring and $35 were stolen on the eve of his marriage to Mis* Lillian Klsasser of Beatrice, Neb., but John Schroeder borrowed money from his landlady, tele graphed the young woman to come to Chicago and the marriage took place as scheduled, it was learned today when Samuel Castle and Frank Klttelson were brought back by the police from Vandalia. HI. The men roomed In the same house with Shroeder, who had asked Castle to telegraph $35 to Ills fiancee. Castle and Klttelson were arrested In Vandalia when they dro\c into that city without lights in an automobile which they are charged with having stolen in Chicago. The pr^oner*. the wedding suit and the ring arrived here last night while the bride and groom were at South Haven, Mich., on their honeymoon. Central Steel Made Defendant Ed Seihel brought suit In district court today against E. Blgnell of Lincoln: W. B. Lyons, cashier of the First National bank at Lincoln; M. Skinner, Ralston: R. S. Wylie a'nd Frank A. Borghoff, alleging that they are directors in the Central Steel and Lock Nut company, which he declares has never been legally reg istered In Nebraska. Selbel alleges that in 1919 Borg hoff sold him stock In the company, for which he paid $3,600 In liberty bonds. He declares Bor^hoff showed him a list of directors and told him the Omaha Chamber of Commerce had offered the company a tract of land if It w-ould locate In Omaha. He asserts the company offices, In the World-Herald building, have been dosed for some months. Widow Testifi es Investing $13,000 in Bankrupt Oil Firm Philadelphia, Aug. 21.—A widow told on the witness stand Monday, at the trial of three former officials of the Black Panther Oil company, charged with fraudulent conversion of more than $1,260,000 of stockhold ers' money, how she had been led to invest $16,000 of a $17,000 estate be queathed by her husband, In stock of the concern, which Is now In the hands of a receiver. The defendants. Max W. Frledell of Marlon. Ind., president; Harry 10. Bindley, Harrlsburgh, Pa., vice pres ident, and Iteuben Douglass of this city, are charged specifically with conspiracy, false pretense and circu lation of an erroneous statement as to the financial condition of the oil company. Assistant District Attorney Sho field, in outlining the prosecution’s case, said that officers of the com pany had represented the production of oil at thousands of barrels a day from extensive wells said to have been scattered throughout Montana and other parts of the mid-west. Nebraska City, Neb., Aug. 21.— Sheet asphalt was the material selected by the city commissioners for the resurfacing of Central nv enue and the west-end paving projects. It was also decided to resurface Central avenue from curb to curb, instead of leaving a space of 10 feet on each side of the thor oughfare. The work will start In a few days.
