Buffaloes Developing the Habit and Defeat ----- -- (ft_ -- . __ _ Denver for Seventh Straight Victory Omaha Takes an Early Lead After Hitting Two Denver Hurlers Freely and Wins Contest by 14 to 4 Score By RALPH WAGNER. Those Omaha Buffaloes chased Billy Gilbert and his Denver Bears ragged again yesterday afternoon, scoring a 14 to-4 victory over the Grizzlies in the second game of the series. And it was the seventh consecutive victory for the herd, too. • Ed Konetchy’s' hirelings knocked two D.nver hurlers for a row of flag poles in the first three innings; then settled down and didn’t score any .more tallies until the eighth, when they chalked up their 14th marker as sort of a grand finale. In the first Inning the herd scored three runs and in euch of the second and third, five Buffaloes scampered across the rubber. In the first three innings Omaha registered 13 runs on 11 hits, two of them bring doubles and one a triple. Two bases on balls, a pair of sacrifices, a double steal and a flock of Bear bobbles all helped the Buffaloes score their jinx number of runs n the first trio'of innings. Buffaloes Hit Well Early. Vorhces started for the visitors, but was jerked in the second after the herd had scored four runs on six hits. Gross relieved him and was knocked from one corner of the lot to the oth er for a 11 .tie more than two innings, curing which time he allowed the Buf faloes nine runs and five h ts. After 1 the third inning. Gross settled down and hurled a nice game for the re mainder of the afternoon. Harry Lee opposed the Grizzlies. He didn’t do anything startling along the line of pitching. Harry allowed the vis tors 13 hits, e-nough to win several ball games, but the Grizzlies couldn't connect with the ball at the opportune times. The support given Lee was good and bad. He got good support during the early part of the contest but as the game aged his teammates sort of eased up under the big lead Omaha held. Joe Bonowitz. Harry Manush, Dick O'Connor and Harry Lee manng d to swing a mean stick in the fact of the Grizzlies. The former not only scor ed three runs, but slammed out a double, s'ngle and a triple, giving hint a total of six bases for the p. m. Ma nush tallied three tlm s and connect ed a like number of times for singles, while O'Connor scored to runs, sacrl flced one, knocked out three singles and stole a couple of bases. Lee got three singles. All fn all, it was a gala day for the Buffalo batters, every member of the herd clouting out a hit with the exception of Hale, Brown and Wetz 1. Falk Stars at Plate, Falk was the batting star for the visitors. Playing right field place for Purcell, this Denver fly-hawk was at bat five times and got three sin gles. Reagan and Diamond each got doubles. St. Joe Beats Wichita. St. Joseph. Mo.. The import duty charged in Cuba,on tobacco of the quality I use as wrapper, alone is so great that it prohibits the manufacture of La Palina. The fact that they cannot buy, in Cuba, a cigar made of the fine tobaccos con- j tained in La Palina is not the only season prominent Cuban tobacco men prefer * it. They find in La Palina a mild, full-bodied flavor contained in no other cigar, and which is the same each year. It is gratifying to me to see that the opinion of these expert judges of tobacco quality is shared, in this country, by so many men whose only requirement of a cigar is that it shall please their taste.
