"The Bootleggers’ Terror” Is visit
ing In Omaha.
He is Federal Judge Page Morris
of the Minnesota federal district, who
is u guest of M. C. Peters of the
Peters Milling company.
Judge Morris, who retired from the
bench this week, was called "The
Bootleggers’ Terror” by a writer in
the Biterary Digest because of his
attitude toward bootleggers brought
before him.
"I believe every man convicted of
bootlegging should be given a jail
sentence,” said Judge Morris. "Fines
don't bother them. They make too
much money.”
It is said of Judge Morris that
when trying bootlegging cases he
would listen to the testimony without
a Word and If the evidence pointed
toward guilt would merely say "120
days." and sometimes more and some
times less.
Judge Morris, whose home was in
Duluth, Minn., has been a resident
of that state for more than 37 years
' and has been a federal judge for 20
years.
He Is moving to California because
of his wife's health.
School for Sugar Beet
Children to Start July 16

Scottsbluff, Neb., July 10.—Children
who work In the beet fields will be
given their second opportunity to at
tend summer school commencing
A July 16, when 10 teachers will have
charge of classes. The purpose Is to
enable them to enter school late In
the fall, after the beet harvest, and
still be even with their classmates
who did not w-ork in the fields.
Time of Portland Train
Reduced Two Hours by U. P.
effective July 29. Union Pacific will
shorten the time of trains No. 17 and
No. 18 between Omaha and Portland
two hours. The name of the train
will be the Portland limited. It for
merly was known as the Oregon
■Washington limited. The Portland
limited will leave Omaha on the new
schedule at 11:55 a. m. and arrive
Portland 6:15 p. m„ third day.

Wins Stay of Sentence
From Judge.
“You can't arrest me. I'm in a
hurry. I want to pet some ice cream
for my father," declared Rose White,
2427 Mary street, when motorcycle
officers ran down her Packard twin
six, which they declared was going
43 miles an hour between Miller park
and Ames avenue.
Moreover, she refused to drive to
the station. .
Police Captain Wheeler came by
during the dispute.
"You get in that car and drive to
the station or you’ll go In the patrol
wagon," he threatened.
Rose at first refused, but reluctant
ly complied after repeated threats.
She was released on bond to her
father. Harry White, proprietor of the
Aetna hotel.
In court yesterday' morning she
drew a two-day sentence in jail.
"Oh, judge, I just can’t go to Jail,"
she pleaded. "My sweetheart is com
ing in from San Francisco and I’ve
got to see him."
Judge Dinegn melted at the pathos
in her brown eyes and granted a
stay of sentence until this morning
