Passenger Service
The passenger service of the Illinois Cen
tral System extends from Omaha to New
Orleans and Florida, but it is splendidly represented
by a fine Omaha-Chicago train, the “Hawkeye
Limited,” that primarily serves those two cities.
The “Hawkeye Limited” is a fast, all-steel train,
made up of equipment of the latest type, including
sleeping cars, chair cars, dining car, and an obser
vation car from Fort Dodge to Chicago. It arrives in
Chicago, Central Station, in the heart of hotel
boulevard-theater district. On-time arrivals, cour
teous personnel, tip-top meals.

Freight Service
The Illinois Central System handles over
its Western Lines an important volume
of all commodities between the East and the West,
including citrus, deciduous and dried fruits, canned
goods, sugar, grain and grain products, potatoes
and other vegetables, oils, lumber, wool, salmon,
live stock and its products, automobiles, steel and
its products, manufactured articles, Asiatic freight.
The reason is unsurpassed service; dependable road
movement; prompt handling of claims; efficient
passing report system; courteous and sympathetic
consideration of shippers’ needs.

The Illinois Central System is the servant of the Mississippi Valley. Over this broad ex
panse of productive, highly developed territory-from the upper reaches of the Missouri river to the Gulf of
Mexico-the Illinois Central System extends, with 6,200 miles of railway lines.
It is the aim of the Illinois Central System and the constant endeavor of its management and employes to make
the railroad noted for the quality of its service. Service is the proper basis of competition in transportation.
In earlier days, competition between railroads was largely a matter of prices. The process of evolution through
which business has been passing has almost entirely eliminated competitive price-making, and has emphasized
in its stead, the giving of service to attract and hold patronage.
WThen a person buys a ticket or bills a shipment via the Illinois Central System he places every officer and employe under a definite obligation
to him, not only to give him full value for his expenditure through prompt, efficient transportation, but to make the service satisfactory to
him in every way. Courtesy necessarily plays a large part, and we are proud of the record our organization is making for courteous service.
The Illinois Central System is an organization of 60,000 workmen, all well trained for their tasks. They accept the responsibility of serving
