Isn't He Awful.
A1J of a sudden one day mother
discovers that John Thomas, “who
has always been the best of boys to
his mother, obedient and pleasant and
ail that and willing to be advised, and
always a home boy," is not any of
these things.
He is noisy In his movements and
loud in his talk. He questions every
•little thing he is asked to do and'sug
gests 20 different ways of doing it
before he will even start. To get nlm
up in the morning becomes a dread
ful task. She feels to really accom
plish it she would better begin the
night before until she is reminded of
the fact that- to get him to hed on
time is even more difficult.
He recents advice. “Aw, what's the
idea? Think I'm a baby? Think I I
don't know how to take care of my- j
self? Why can’t I stay until 10 '
o’clock? It Isn't dark. No, it Isn't i
and anyway aren’t the other fellows i
there? You never want me to go j
anywhere. You think all the fellows
are no good. Make a baby out of me.
Never had any fun in this house.” j
This from the obedient, respectful son
of a few months ago.
He announces that he isn’t going
to eat any more prunes, not as long
as he lives, never. He eats enormous- J
ly and wants to eat enough to satisfy |
his appetite of just one thing. May
be it's bread with catsup spread j

sausages. And rumbles and squeaks
in a horrible voice when he does not )
get them, too.
He stands a long time at the glass
and beats his scalp with th% hair
brush until his hair lies ns flat as an
oilskin cap. Ho ties and unties his
tie and finally jerks it off and throws
it on the bed and bawls, "Mother.
Will you come and tie my tie? Why
don’t you buy me some decent tics
that will look like something? These
are no good.” Then races downstairs
two at a time whistling shrilly as he
lurches out and bangs the door be
hirsl him.
He comes home from school one
afternoon and blurts out, ‘ Mother, if
you' don't make Helen leave me and
my friends alone I'll do something to
n(*r that will make her behave her
self. You and father never say a word
to her and she does w hat she pleases.
You got to make her stop. She called
out on the street to me today when
I was walking home with Jean Jones,
‘O you—oo. Keeping Up with the
Jones.' What will people think?” And
then this strange creature actually
bursts into tears.
By these signs you will know you
have an adolescent son and you will
be very patient and gentle and speak
only when you have to and then as
wisely hs you cun. Father ought to
Ijp very helpful.
If you trained him the right 'way
from the time lie was born until now
you need have no fear. He will come
through lately. All you need to do
now is to be patient and watchful and
wait. And for everybody's sake,
soothe him, for he Is like a cockerel
"penning out." Pesky but full of
1 romlse. His full plumage will ap
pear all in good time.

New “Mezzanine Fountain"
The new "mezzanine fountain” on
the mezzanine floor of the Burgeas
Nash store will open thin morn
ing. The fountain and its equipment
are said to lie the most elaborate and
beautiful In tile city.
(,'halrs and tables for guests are
of Italian wrought iron; table tops are
of Italian marble, and dark green
in color, and the fountain Is of marble
and mahogany. The decorative scheme
