    Girl, Stranded
Here, Questioned
i Disappearance of Two Men
W ho Brought Mother, 16,
to Omaha, Mystery.
Columbus. Neb.. March 13.—(Spe
cial.)—After being grilled for two
hours by Deputy Sheriff Jawroski and
County Attorney Otto Walter, Mrs.
Evelyn Sparks Fletcher, 16, was un
able to throw any new clues on the
/ mysterious disappearance of Ralph
1 Baker, 23, and a business associate
with whem she took a motorcycle
ride to Omaha, only to be deserted In
the city penniless.
Baker and his pal came to Colum
bus last week, announcing they were
going to open an upholstering and
furniture repair shop. They purchas
ed a $225 motorcycle from Ernest
Fredricks, paying $50 down. Accord
ing to Mrs. Sparks-Fleteher, she ac
companied the two men In the mo
torcycle and sidecar to Omaha, leav
ing Thursday and camping over night
between Schuyler and North Bend.
When they reached Omaha Friday,
they asked the girl to go to the
Keen hotel while they took the ma
chine to a garage at Seventeenth and
Harney streets. They failed to re
turn and tho girl went to the Y. W.
C. A., where she was given food and
lodging and her fare home.
Omaha police were notified, but the
men had disappeared. Mrs. Sparks
Fleteher said she had been hired
to keep house for the two men. She
is the mother of a 7-mnnths-old child
and was married two years ago to a
40 years old, whom she later di
\ orced.
