Fremont, Neb., March 9.—(Special.)—
Charging that his church is reverting
to thedisinteresting attitude of mys
ticism, and that other Protestant
churches are drifting into a carnal
or wordly condition, Rev. A. W. AA'at
kins, rector of the Fremont Episcopal
church, startled an assembly of pa*
tors and churchgoers at a farewell re
ception for Dr. O. O. Smith. Hr. Smith
has accepted a call to the Congrega
tional church at Pueblo, Colo., and
leaves within a few days.
Rev. Mr. AA'atkins was on the pro
gram as one of the speakers, ex
pressing the appreciation of Dr.
Smith's work in Fremont and their re
rture. He spoke of
the duties of a pastor and the con
gregation toward each other. It was
during this part of his address that
he made the following statement:
“My church, the Episcopal church,
today seems to me is going hack to a
state of mysticism, while other Prot
estant churches are tending toward the
carnal, material, or shall I say the
worldly; away from the Idea of the
divinity of Christ, to look more upon
Jesus as a pal."
The pastor, remarked that present
religion is in a had way, if one cannot
get the people together unless he an
nounces a “blowout."
Man Found Dead With Open
Prayer Hook on Dresser
William Moore, 60, formerly a sec
tion hand, committed suicide, accord
ing to police, Thursday night in a
rooming house conducted by Rose
Antren at 1J 2 6 North Eighteenth
street.
His lifeless body was found in a
gas-filled room by roomers in the
house this morning. He had stuffed
paper in the cracks of doors and win
dows. An open prayer book was on
the dresser in the room.

Chicago, March 9.—(<A>))—In the
largest district in Methodism, tho
Glacier Park district, embracing
45,900 square miles and running the
whole length of Montana along the
north side or almost 6*5 miles of
borderland, there are just 27 preach
ers, the committee on conservation
and advance of the Methodist Epis
copal church announced today, In
connection with a series of confer
ences to be held there.
Rev. Francis P. Jones, principal of
tho Gurhrie high school of Hinghwa
mission, Fukien, China; Dr. Charles
L. Bovard, secretary of the Helena
area, and Rev. Charles G. Cole, dis
trict superintendent of the Glacier
Park district, will present “The
World Servile Program of the
Church" to the principal congrega
tions of the district.
Within the district are four Indian
reservation, the Flathead, Blackfnnt,
Fort Peck and Fort Belknap. Serv
