That day was the occasion when the stock mar ket, which had been rising rapidly throughout the spring months, turned to reaction and uncertainty which did not really end until the settlement of I the coal strike at the end of August. It is not unusual for a day of great ly Increased transactions to mark the culmination of a more or less pro longed advance. That this will hap ! pen on the present occasion does not follow: the coal strike was a definite j and visible obstacle to uninterrupted industrial revival last year, and no ; similar handicap is plainly In sight In , the recent present domestic, situation. Y While today's movement of prices was pretty generally upward and nu merous industrial shares advanced 1 to 3 points, closing prices were, as a rule, below the best and there wero some net declines. Railway stocks, as a group, were fractionally lower, not withstanding the favorable traffic and earnings published after the pre vious day's closing. Kxrhnng* Irregular.
