New York. Jan. 5.—Government of
ficials today frankly admitted they
"ere investigating reports that Hus
stall crown jewels to the value of
.?4,000,0t'0 had been smuggled Into
this country in the coffin of an Amer
ican sailor and burled in the National
cemetery In Brooklyn.
While authorities in Washington
continued to disclaim official knowl
edge of previous efforts to locate the
jewels in the Brooklyn grave, us set
forth yesterday In a copyrighted story
published by the Chicago Daily News,
it was announced both here and in
Washington that the story of the

lng that an investigation had been j
ordered.
Meanwhile the grave of Seaman ]
Jameg Jones, who died on the army
transport Edellyn at Gibraltar in Au
gust, 1920, on the way to the United
States from Vladivostok and into
whose coffin the jewels were reported
to have been slipped, remained un
disturbed under its mantle of snow.
A band of reporters who assembled
at the cemetery shortly after dawn
and who remained there during the
day, obtained from Superintendent
Buschtnan confirmation of the fact
that Jones was buried In the ceme
tery.
Rustless steel, a recent European
discovery, is being tried in place of
gold, for the plates of artlf.clal teeth.
