Witzenburg Heads Gage Farm Union Committee Named for Tax Conference—Next Meeting at Wymore in June. Beatrice, Neb. Jan. 5.—(Special.)— At the annual meeting of the Gage County Farmers' union here Maroe Witzenburg was elected president; I,. M. Smith, vice president, and Frank Malicky, secretary-treasurer. Mr. Witzenburg was elected dele gate to the state convention and Frank Malicky, alternate. Tin: board of directors consists of John Frerichs, Pel Colgrove, Walter Dietz. Evan Hughes and F. R. Ellington. The report of Secretary Malicky showed a balance on hand of approximately $200. Brief addresses on farm activities were given hy F. C. Schultz of Rock ford and W. H. Dale of Lincoln. It was voted to hold the next meeting In June at Wymore. The union has i a membership of about l.ooo. A committee consisting of Fred Damrow, L. M. Smith and F. C. Schultz was appointed to confer with the county board of supervisors rela tive to reducing taxes in tthe county. Another committee was also named to take up the matter of employing pris oners in the county jail on road work. This committee comprises Pope Fre richs, Joe Lenger and M. A. Wick. i Aurora School Head Will Speak at State Meeting j Aurora, Neb.. Jan. 5.—(Special.)— ! The principal address at the annual meeting of the state association of city school boards in Lincoln January 11 will be by Hupt. J. A. Dorentua of Aurora whose subject will be "Deni oeracy and the Organization of the Public Schools," B. B. Hanson of Meadow Grove will i advocate raising of the limit of taxa- | tion for towns having less than 1,000 population. The present limit is 35 mills. The meetings of the associa tion will he held at the Lincoln hotel. Aurora Banker Heads Taxpayers’ League w Aurora, Neb,, Jan. 5—(Special.)— William 1. Farley, president of the Nebraska State Taxpayers' league, re cently organized in Hastings, is a banker and real estate man of Au rora. He is president of the First National bank of Aurora, the First National bank at Marquette and the First State banks at Hordville, Mur phy, Thedford and Whitman. Mr. Farley was one of the llrst residents of Aurora and besides his banking in terests is the owner of n large amount of farm land in this county. He was a member of the legislature of 1907.
